'Homesick' Ben Hannant may quit Bulldogs

Personally I think the Broncos would be mad to not consider taking Hannant. I'm not saying give him 1/8th of our salary cap, but think of it this way. On Monday night when Kenny and Anderson went off the field, the Broncos domination in the forwards faded away. If we have Kenny, Anderson and Hannant all in the side, and if we use our interchange wisely it's possible that we could have 2 of those 3 players on the field all throughout the game and can keep momentum strongly in our favour.

Seriously, bring him back!!!!!

we need him but at what price?? Do we also swap a player or 2 for him?? No doubt adding Hannant to our side would almost certainly make us finish in the 8.

I really think Setu could be something special I'd prefer to keep him. Swapping Sims yeah could do that but I'd reckon we run the risk of losing his brothers. Not sure if they are any good though

Surely it depends on how much he wants? If he is asking $350k then I don't think he is worth it because he will not be the catalyst that wins us another premiership.

He regards himself as a marquee player, well he is not IMO. He is very good but he is not a Glen Lazarus type who you can build a pack around.

Yes I am very happy with what I have seen from him so far. Particularly his performance in round 1 he was fantastic.

I also think Anderson has been playing quite well. I look forward to how he is going to develop later in the season.

The chances of Ben Hannant returning home to Brisbane before his Canterbury-Bankstown contract ends are fading unless the Queensland forward drops his asking price.

Much has been made of Hannant's desire to return home because he is homesick, but it is understood he is seeking about $500,000 a season to leave Belmore.

He is on $350,000 at the Bulldogs. A half-million dollars is usually paid only to the very best players, such as North Queensland Cowboys halfback Johnathan Thurston.

"I'd be very surprised if that was the case," Bulldogs chief executive Todd Greenberg said.

"Ben has been very upfront and honest with us about the difficulties that he and his family have experienced in the transition to life in Sydney and we're working on an outcome that would be palatable to both parties."

Brisbane Broncos have dropped out of the race for Hannant saying it was an unwanted distraction, leaving Gold Coast Titans as his only alternative.

Titans chief executive Michael Searle said he intended to talk to Hannant's manager, George Mimis, this week but there was little room in the salary cap.

If he thinks he will get 500k a season he is delusional [icon_non

+1.

JT, Locky, Cam Smith and GI are the only players in the comp worthy of that money imo.

maybe he could put a tie on and door knock to try and raise some money to get him to Brisbane?

I'm as usual very skeptical of the figures being thrown around by the media. Surely Hannant and his manager aren't retarded....they must know that even the best prop in the world isn't worth $500K, and he's not yet the best prop in the world!

Won't it be ironic if he ends up playing in England because nobody in Australia wants to pay him that much...make a mockery of the "my kids were unhappy in Sydney" argument.

Hey guys, let's not knock the 500k demand. As Latrell Sprewell once said "I've gotta feed my family".

What are you feeding them? Diamond encrusted crunchy nut corn flakes?

As if, that's lower class food.

Diamond encrusted Truffle dusted solid gold flakes.

The only source stating his financial demands seems to be the ambiguous 'it is understood he is seeking' mystery insider. Till I hear BH himself, or in the company of his manager, his manager say he wants 500k a season. Till then I'd say the charge of avarice is unproven.
