Intrust Super Cup 2014

Norths Devils playmaker Todd Murphy leads the race for the prestigious Courier-Mail Medal as the second half of an intriguing regular season begins to unfold.

The time-honoured award recognises the best and fairest player in Intrust Super Cup, with the referees casting their votes at the end of each match on a 3-2-1 basis.

Votes will stay out of the public eye after the completion of this weekend’s round with the final leader board to be revealed at the QRL’s Annual Gala Dinner in September.

Murphy, who is currently sidelined through injury, has polled maximum points on four occasions to be out in front on 16 points from PNG Hunters skipper Israel Eliab (14) and Wynnum Manly hooker Jake Granville (14).

Rounding out the current top five are Devils skipper Brendon Gibb (13) and Ipswich captain Keiron Lander (12).

Another terrific performance from Henare Wells. Hard to believe he hasn't got a start in first grade somewhere. He's a phenomenal talent.

Worth noting that neither Jake Granville or Darren Nicholls played for their respective sides. Instead former Warriors hooker Alehana Mara came in for Granny with hooker Kalolo Saitaua coming in for Nicholls.

Wonder if that hat-trick to Mago earns him a debut for the Raiders? With Papalii gone, it'd be worth a punt.

Players spread across 10 Intrust Super Cup clubs will feature in this year’s XXXX Queensland Residents team to play the New South Wales Cup representative side at Suncorp Stadium.
Intrust Super Cup front-runners the Northern Pride have five players named in the representative team for the annual clash on July 9.
Burleigh, Easts, Ipswich, Mackay, Norths, Redcliffe, Souths Logan, Tweed Heads and Wynnum Manly will all supply one player or more following an exhaustive selection process conducted throughout the first half of the season.
The Intrust Super Cup’s 2013 Coach of the Year – the Pride’s Jason Demetriou – will guide the squad which enters camp on the Gold Coast this Friday.
Queensland will be striving to reclaim the honours in the annual representative match after NSW claimed a tight contest in Sydney last year 22-18.
PNG Hunters players are ineligible for Queensland Residents selection. This follows a mutual agreement between the Hunters and the QRL, which took into consideration the extensive national programs already provided in PNG.

Heartbreak for the Jets this afternoon, losing on full-time to Souths Logan via a 38m penalty goal. 42-40.

Before then, the Jets had scored two late tries to fight their way back in - one to big Marty Kennedy.

Crazy game from the sounds of it. Magpies lead by 24 points at half-time until the Jets came out and played an expansive brand of footy which got them back into the game until Magpies back Rapana made a big break which saw them score and a Jets player binned. Jets still managed to score and in the end lost the game on the back of a short kick off which lead to a penalty.

Big afternoon of ISC football. The SC Falcons just registered their first win of the season against the Dolphins who were absolutely woeful.

Souths ahead 40-12 with 25 to go, Anderson scored in the corner to lock it up at 40 all with the kick to come. Conlon missed so Souths kicked off with 10 seconds to go, went short and got the ball back- Jets raked it out- penalty which Souths converted after the ball to win.

Kennedy started and played 15 minutes in the fist half, was better in the second half and yes scored a good try on the right hand side, supporting the runner took the pass and pushed past/off three players to score and get the ball down.

36 game losing streak over. First time ever Dolphins have lost five in a row.

Gee, would hate to be the player who stripped the ball in that occasion, I'm sure the Walker brothers would have been happy to take the draw under those circumstances.

Crazy afternoon.

Crazy afternoon.

Not so sure, looked at it a few times now and I swear the Souths player throws it away to milk the penalty.

Bold move if I am right, but worked.
