PLAYER Jamayne Isaako Discussion

If his general play kicking is anything like his drop kicks we are seriously wasting him.
They already use him for penalty kicks to touch suggesting he has the biggest boot in the team. He also has a union background where fullbacks do a lot more kicking.

I believe he did have a total duff of a kick from a touch finder where it went off the inside of his boot along the ground and about 2m gain (was lucky to find touch). Suggesting that his execution isn't fully spot on just yet

I think people will change their mind about wanting Boyd at 5/8 when they see him play there. I've seen him play there, and it didn't exactly fill me with confidence.

We wouldn't be any better off.
Actually, I beg to differ if we have more a situation where we have two interchangeable halves who work well in concert. Niko offers little and is quite a liability in defence but Milford is a bit better in that department and I could imagine Milf and Boyd working it out, how they'd do a job. I just feel that if we could squeeze 5-10% more points out of our halves it would be worth doing.

The upside to a combo would be better defence and certainly not less points production with the real chance of a better product. It gets the captain in closer to lead and to instruct his guys what he wants. With Isaako out the back waiting to mimic Billy Slater and shadowing his halves all game long I'd expect quite a deal of improvement. Isaako has moves and that scintillating try from mid field a couple of weeks ago tells me he could very well be a Billy Slater clone, who knows maybe even better not that Slaters level wouldn't be enough !

It may not improve us in the halves but it’d improve us at fullback.

Not really.

Perhaps metres from the back, but everything else? Boyd > Isaako.

I don't think Isaako has much playmaking in him. I think Kahu would bring much more in that aspect, but he may not have the physical prowess of Isaako. We'd certainly be well served with either of them from fullback, but I'd still prefer to trial Knik there.

I don't believe Boyd would be much of a 5/8, even if he might be an improvement on Knik at least defensively, and hopefully bring some more leadership to the team, but we'd still lack a game controlling half, which is our main issue.

I'd have to respectfully disagree Port on Boyd. I think that managing the game would be his strength if it was a given that Milford was the creative and impulsive partner. For mine Boyd would largely take a backseat in attack only stepping up on the fifth (or fourth) tackle and choosing where to kick to, type of kick, run or dink in behind, that sort of thing. Boyd in his last stint as a 5/8 from memory was required to be both creator and manager and it wasn't ideal for him but as strictly a manager of final set movements he I believe, would excel.

Looks like Isaako wears his Broncs kit even in training, he loves the club and they don't want to lose him, he'll stay.

I do believe Boyd could bring some game management and direction to the team, but I don't think he has the necessary skills to execute it as a half. I don't think Boyd has a kicking game to speak of outside of the occasional grubber, and given his current physical condition, I'm not sure he can be a running half either.

Milford should be the one taking the back seat in the halves. Let him sniff around the ruck for opportunities, and choose his moments to take advantage of his speed and evasiveness.

I hope so.... Surely the chooks could find a replacement for Fergo amongst their deep stocks of juniors.

Something dodgy as **** going on if teams like the Roosters can outbid us fot our players. Seriously if we lose player to th ed Rosters considering who they have and who they have signed in the last few years I would seriously consider walking away from such corrupt game thag blindly lets it happen.
