RUMOUR James Roberts to Broncos

Not true at all

I mean, feel free to show me when he scores tries off the back of him busting through the initial tackle, then burning the support defenders with speed against teams like the Broncos, Roosters, Cowboys and Storm.

Come on man, don't you remember all those tries he scored against us?!?

I do usually have a very selective memory when it comes to people scoring against us and things that didn't actually happen.

Can't help but laugh at the people who are criticising Roberts for not scoring tries against all the good defensive teams, when he was playing on the Titans, who finished with the worst point differential by far in the comp, and would've been lucky to win games in the Queensland Cup with the amount of injures they had, but hey, whatever suits the agenda right boys?

I can't wait to see him next season on the Broncos or Rabbitohs where there's actually other good players around him, so the defense can't just throw 3 defenders at him whenever he touches the ball, there's going to be a lot of egg on a lot of faces around here.

Hmmm, I've got a lot of thoughts on this.

I didn't think he'd leave the Titans. The early indication seemed to be that he'd stick around and I was looking forward to seeing him play at fullback where the Titans would be able to give him more ball. Of course there were going to be some learning curves there as well, but in their position, I felt like the Titans would have to make that move moving forward. With that said, I disagree with the media's condemnation of James Roberts and how he owes the Titans. It wasn't like Roberts was some NYC star who was mucking up. By the time the Titans signed him, Roberts had already made an impact in first grade and it appeared as if he had a long career ahead of him. It wasn't like the Gold Coast did anything differently with him either. All they provided was a change in environment and that has helped a lot of players over the course of time. Beyond that, everything you saw was all Roberts. The tries he scored or set up were through speed and awareness, it wasn't like Sezer, Mortimer or Elgey were putting him into space. If I was a Titans fan, I'd be livid but I have no sympathy for their administration who continually find ways to screw up.

Now, would I like Roberts at the Broncos? Sure, but how much are we talking? If we're paying him marquee Dally M Centre of the Year money, then the answer is no. I don't think the risk is worth the reward. This is a player who has continually disappointed club after club and I found his 2015 to be somewhat overrated. Sure, he did a lot of things basically on his own but he also had a ton of mistakes in him both in offence and defence and I don't quite trust him off the field yet. Surviving one season after being shown the door at two other clubs doesn't convince me and we saw what happened last time we brought in someone with a shady history, it didn't pan out. Hell, it hasn't panned out twice in two seasons now that I think about it.

Is Roberts better than Copley and Reed? Sure. However is he as VALUABLE as those players? The jury is out on that.

My only agenda is making people aware that they are over-exaggerating everything James Roberts has done because a few RL media personalities fell in love with him last year. I've also stated that I wouldn't mind him at the club. So please tell me what my agenda is?

Yes. As far as Copley is concerned anyway. If we were to lose both players for one james roberts, no that wouldn't be a wise idea, however I don't think that will be the case.

Maranta and Copley would go in the most likely scenario.

People are over-exaggerating the guy who either scored or assisted in one third of all of an NRL teams tries in an entire season, yeah how silly are people, can't believe I was suckered in by all those Rugby League media personalities! They really pulled a number on us!

I think our chances of getting Roberts just went from 50% to about 5% if the quotes in the RLW article are accurate, they're from his manger and basically say that if Roberts says he's ready to return to Sydney then he'll only look at Sydney offers, and James has indicated that he is.

I will take 1 Greg Inglis please Souths.

That's okay, a lot of people were suckered into Nathan Merritt as well.

We all saw how that turned out.

What agenda? I have already said multiple times that I would be stoked if we signed Roberts (even though I would prefer Inglis if that is an option). All I'm saying is I have realistic expectations of him.

You say it facetiously but it seems to be the case. You're definitely buying into the hype that was created by the media. Don't worry though, you're not the only one.

Yeah you're completely correct, I watched The Footy Show one week and Fatty said he's really good and then Big Marn agreed with him, I've never actually seen him play or anything, what position does he play again?

most people are also over-exaggerating Reed based on about 6 good games this year and his really good 2011 and 2012 seasons.

The problem with Reed, IMO, is while his good games tend he be awesome ... his other games tend to be down right dreadful and not up to NRL standard. for some reason he also seems to be given more chances than other players. Hell, Maranta got dropped late in the year, and i thought he was going really well.

On Roberts, I think his right value (at least to us) is 350k, but i wouldn't pay much more than that ... I wouldn't pay more than that. I personally would love to see a Copley/Roberts center pairing as i think that could be very dangerous, if given time, especially with our awesome halves giving them quality ball.

No they're not. Most people over-exaggerate how rubbish he is. Take him out of that team last year, Broncos aren't in the Grand Final. That's the sort of year he had.

On the other hand, the Copley lovers have completely forgotten him dropping every ball he was given a few years back.

and in 2014 he was our leading try scorer and one of our best players that year ... playing outside Hoggman i might add.

in 2015, while he wasn't at his best, he was going no worse that Reed was (maybe even a little better) but never really got the chances that Reed did. especially as it is hard to get things like timing right when you are moved all over the back line and on both sides of the field.

Reed was last consistently good in 2012. in fact in 2014 i remember people screaming from the rooftops about how shit he was and having a go at hook for not dropping him.

I also remember many people upset at the club for re-signing him on a 250k a season deal.

There seems to be a lot of over-exaggerating, underrating and overrating simultaneously on this forum..

Can't we just universally agree that -

A) Reed had a good season, he is a good player.
B) Roberts had a great season, he is a great player.
C) Copley didn't play much last season, we aren't sure if he's a good player.
