Jarryd Hayne NFL Career

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

Jarryd Hayne has always got a bad wrap in league circles and I never quite understood it. He's never been caught up in a major scandal. He's the best player in the game and has been in the top 3 since his debut, despite tht he always stuck loyal to parra during some of the most laughable seasons an nrl team has produced.

This guy might be a bore at parties but he has shown nothing but a strong moral compass that leagies often lack. How he cops shit over an alleged woman beating, cap cheating, money chasing, state denying (alleged, alleged, alleged), Inglis completely beats me.

Despite his age he has almost had a decade long career in the NRL which is a huge achievement for any player. He could retire from sport tomorrow and have nothing left to prove.

I'm gutted to see him leave our game and it has to be the biggest player loss the NRL has ever seen but I hope he achieves everything he wants to in the NFL and if he does fail, I hope the broncos throw every cent they can afford toward him coming here.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

The cynic in me says he has one eye on the Dave Smith pot of gold to lure him back.

I think it's mostly the commentators that make people hate him. It happens with a lot of players whose balls they pleasure on live TV.

I've had respect for him ever since he saved a girl from drowning, and I've always enjoyed watching talented players (including guys like Andrew Johns in the past)...except when they played the Broncs or QLD, of course.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

I think it'll be interesting to see what happens when his strength and conditioning goals change. An extra 10-20lb of weight, more explosive training and he could be anything. At 240-245 6'2 he is the exact same size as Hernandez was for the Pats.

I think his agility w/ pass blocking could be effective as an athletic TE / H-back. As far as him learning to block goes, if he is going to learn any position bar punt receiving he is going to have to learn systems, routes etc. He's an avid NFL fan, so I don't think he is completely brainless as to the basics. Doing it IRL is obviously a different ball game though.

I think Tera is right and it's most likely we'll see him start as a PR, maybe moving into a RB position. He could be good at that. Do you guys reckon he could take the shots? I don't know if he could be better at any of those positions than some of the kids in college who won't make the NFL doe.

He can take the shots okay but I don't think he's fast enough. A lot of returners have 4.3 40 speeds and Hayne looks nowhere near that.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

There is no doubt this is a huge blow to the game, but it's not like we haven't recovered before. This is awesome news for QLD and to a lesser extent, the Broncos (Parra may as well sit the season out next year) and that's all that matters to me. As a player, he's a freakshow, as a human, Hayne is a ****.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

It of course is a massive blow to NSW but hopefully Stewart or Moylan can step up to the plate and fullback can be covered if they do. Both Stewart and Moylan are class players.

I bleed Maroon; I met Hayne 1 time and he was a pretty good guy and wasn't big headed.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

I think Hayne cops a bad wrap as a bloke. Never met him but I don't really remembering him doing anything to condemn?

He's got more than a few headbutts on the field on his wrap sheet. That's enough.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

Super coach teams will look at lot different with no SBW Surgess or Jayne

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

The only problem with Hayne is that he's a terrible captain who carries on after every call whether it's right or wrong.

Outside of that, there were aforementioned headbutting incidents but I can't seem to recall one since 2010. Before then, he had a pretty dirty season in 2008 and had a reputation for diving but that's about it.

I've heard fans call him arrogant, which I can definitely see but then I've never seen anything wrong with a certain amount as long as you can back it up. This year, Hayne certainly could.

It won't kill the game but I share Ari's view that by letting these players walk it really hurts the growth of the competition. Sure, there will always be a new Tuqiri, a new Hayne, a new Burgess but I want the NEW and PRESENT in the same competition. That's the only way the code is going to improve.

It was jealousy and totally ignorant people with little league knowledge that hated him. Anyone with any knowledge of the game would admit he is one of the best players of our time.

Wow am still in shock. Full credit to him though as at least his chasing he's dreams and will have no regrets hopefully.

Difference between not liking a bloke and not rating a bloke, you can't dislike a player while stile rating his ability. So pretty sure not liking Hayne has nothing to do with ones knowledge of league.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

If he does come back to NRL after 2 years, he'd have be the biggest cheapie on any fantasy/supercoach league

Source: My paltry knowledge of the above mentioned leagues

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

It's not even close to that simple.

Walk-ons at my school (a walk-on is basically a guy who trials and gets on the team and is a tackling bag for the rest of the season) get a playbook that is 100 pages long. This isn't even a big school like FSU or Alabama, let alone the NFL.

Athletes of his ability are a dime a dozen over here... like I said I'm at a mid major school and as far as athletic ability goes, Hayne would be right at the top of the bell curve, at an average mid major team. There's 12,000 D1 college football players right now, 300 of those will get drafted, maybe 200 will make a roster and play more than 2 years in the league. The odds are stacked against him and the Australian media doesn't realize how average he is as an athlete when compared to guys over here.

Agree completely. Also baffles me that the reverse switch doesn't even seem to happen. There's probably a bunch of guys who aren't good enough for the NFL who would probably be very successful in league.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

Apparently he felt that he had nothing left to achieve in rugby league. Was I asleep when Parramatta won the premiership with him?
