Jarryd Hayne NFL Career

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

Players not in the NRL in 2015, include but not limited to: SBW, Sam Burgess, Jarryd Hayne, Israel Folau, Ben Te'o.

All this does is set a precedent for others -- for younger players, or Inglis etc - to see the NRL as a stepping stone to making fame and fortune in other sports.

The real problem stems from when the league selectively threw millions at people like Andrew Johns, but not caring if Broncos/Qlders moved to rah-rah, AFL (Sailor Tuqiri, Rogers, Hunt, Folau).

The league couldn't recover from its pathetic inconsistencies to make a plausible policy on the matter - which is that - any NRL team needs to have the permission to be able to pay 3-4 "marquee" players $1.5m a year.

**** having an "equal" league where any of the top 12 or 13 teams have a pretty good chance of playing finals football each year. Where the "2014 Brisbane fucktard Bronco squad" can finish pretty much equal with Parra and still fall arse backwards into the playoffs.

I want to see the best players, playing the best game in the world.

**** Smith off.

Put Greenberg in, or better yet, someone with some large testicles who will actually stand up for the sport.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

Difference between not liking a bloke and not rating a bloke, you can't dislike a player while stile rating his ability. So pretty sure not liking Hayne has nothing to do with ones knowledge of league.

I've met and known people who legitimately didn't rate him and thought he was hopeless

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

I know I shouldn't really care, because he's from NSW and I should virtually hate him.. but I'm gonna miss watching him play, I always feared playing the Eels & NSW purely because of what he can do, now I won't get that nervous / excitement from those games, well at least not as much as before.. this sucks!

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

Hayne is definitely a huge loss. Much more than Sam or SBW. At least in this instance though it's not really about money but pursuing a personal dream. A lot more to respect about that and easier to take as a reason for losing a star. As opposed to someone like Folau who would be here if he got the $$$

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

It's not even close to that simple.

Walk-ons at my school (a walk-on is basically a guy who trials and gets on the team and is a tackling bag for the rest of the season) get a playbook that is 100 pages long. This isn't even a big school like FSU or Alabama, let alone the NFL.

Athletes of his ability are a dime a dozen over here... like I said I'm at a mid major school and as far as athletic ability goes, Hayne would be right at the top of the bell curve, at an average mid major team. There's 12,000 D1 college football players right now, 300 of those will get drafted, maybe 200 will make a roster and play more than 2 years in the league. The odds are stacked against him and the Australian media doesn't realize how average he is as an athlete when compared to guys over here.

Your last line encapsulated my first thoughts. As a viewing public we Australians are as stupid as the American equivalent. So many of us swallow the line about being the greatest this or that but it's the classic 'big fish,little pond'. Hayne may do alright over there but will in all likelihood just be another also ran. I absolutely agree with his decision to go though, it's a short life so having as much variety of experiences as one can get is a fabulous idea. If he has no kids or commitments here then for sure get out and enjoy life. There is **** all difference between 100 NRL games and 300 NRL games but the chance to do new things is irreplaceable . I don't like the cross eyed mong all that much but good luck to him and don't embarrass we Aussies !

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

At least he's not going to a game that is in direct competition with our game.

Depending what year that was they may have a point ;) I don't like the bloke, never have and never will but I rate his talent level.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

I can't believe it..

It's just a huge shock. When I came online and saw the headline, I thought it was a gee up. Turns out it's not.

Such a huge loss.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

That State of Origin trophy may as well be loaded up on the QLD team bus right now and start its journey back to its rightful resting place.

So long Jarryd, I hope we never see you play rugby league again.

I think that's a formality regardless if he plays or not. He was very good in game one but was well contained in the last two. QLD have him worked out.

Back on topic: Good luck to him.

They still don't rate him

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

Super coach teams will look at lot different with no SBW Surgess or Jayne

:laugh: Yep, definitely spices things up a bit.

If he does come back to NRL after 2 years, he'd have be the biggest cheapie on any fantasy/supercoach league

Source: My paltry knowledge of the above mentioned leagues

Nope, I don't think he'll be out of the game long enough to warrant a hefty discount on his amazing 2014.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

The only problem with Hayne is that he's a terrible captain who carries on after every call whether it's right or wrong.

Outside of that, there were aforementioned headbutting incidents but I can't seem to recall one since 2010. Before then, he had a pretty dirty season in 2008 and had a reputation for diving but that's about it.

I've heard fans call him arrogant, which I can definitely see but then I've never seen anything wrong with a certain amount as long as you can back it up. This year, Hayne certainly could.

It won't kill the game but I share Ari's view that by letting these players walk it really hurts the growth of the competition. Sure, there will always be a new Tuqiri, a new Hayne, a new Burgess but I want the NEW and PRESENT in the same competition. That's the only way the code is going to improve.

Yep, someone like Te'o we can afford to lose but you can't keep losing multiple stars. Hayne is somewhat understandable in that no money or action was ever going to keep him in the game. He's left for aspirational reasons that have little to do with $$$ (Don't care what top NFL players get, he'll never, ever see anything close to it), but SBW and Burgess are blows. All 3 at the same time even more so.

Whereas the Eels this year were a pretty dangerous team, and most could be entertained by Hayne, I dare say that now the Eels are going to massively regress and will no longer have any real drawcards. Then you have teams like the Raiders and Sharks who also lack stars, and games like Roosters v Souths next year without SBW v Burgess. The latter will still survive, but will be poorer for it.

And frankly, I don't think we will replace Hayne. SBW and Burgess eventually, but Hayne has such a unique set of skills.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

I can't see NSW beating QLD without him....well, almost. We mostly lost Game 2 this year due to the injuries. Game 1 he completely killed us. They'll need Brooks to keep on developing for now, because Hodkinson and Reynoldsw can't be long term options.

I'm not so sure, i think Moyland might be a handy replacement for Hayne.

That kid will be a superstar.

It has placed even more pressure on Queensland in my view they will forever be the favourites in origin from now on. Everyone now expects Queensland to win and NSW are expected to lose and the Blues can use this to their advantage.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

Putting more pressure on QLD, sure, but NSW have just lost by far their best player. The advantage goes to QLD 10x more than NSW. Without him NSW have next to nothing in attack. Everything they have done the last few years has been through him.
