Jarryd Hayne NFL Career

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

It has placed even more pressure on Queensland in my view they will forever be the favourites in origin from now on. Everyone now expects Queensland to win and NSW are expected to lose and the Blues can use this to their advantage.

Like they did for the 8 years before this

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

Agree completely. Also baffles me that the reverse switch doesn't even seem to happen. There's probably a bunch of guys who aren't good enough for the NFL who would probably be very successful in league.

If things look like they're going south for Hayne over there, I could see him getting in the ears of a few of these guys.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

I can't see NSW beating QLD without him....well, almost. We mostly lost Game 2 this year due to the injuries. Game 1 he completely killed us. They'll need Brooks to keep on developing for now, because Hodkinson and Reynoldsw can't be long term options.

He was the difference in Game 1. In game 2, injuries certainly played their part but our preparation was poor. Hindsight is a beautiful thing but Hunt would have done better than a half-fit DCE. We went down there trying not to lose rather than win.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

I'm not so sure, i think Moyland might be a handy replacement for Hayne.

That kid will be a superstar.

Moylan is great, and probably the next best option. But he's still far from being Hayne's level. And they will need someone at Hayne's level with halves like Hodkinson and Reynolds.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

Yep, someone like Te'o we can afford to lose but you can't keep losing multiple stars. Hayne is somewhat understandable in that no money or action was ever going to keep him in the game. He's left for aspirational reasons that have little to do with $$$ (Don't care what top NFL players get, he'll never, ever see anything close to it), but SBW and Burgess are blows. All 3 at the same time even more so.

Whereas the Eels this year were a pretty dangerous team, and most could be entertained by Hayne, I dare say that now the Eels are going to massively regress and will no longer have any real drawcards. Then you have teams like the Raiders and Sharks who also lack stars, and games like Roosters v Souths next year without SBW v Burgess. The latter will still survive, but will be poorer for it.

And frankly, I don't think we will replace Hayne. SBW and Burgess eventually, but Hayne has such a unique set of skills.

Hayne played really well this season but it was made easier by running off that forward pack. They've made some alright backline signings so I wouldn't say it's all doom and gloom for them. I wonder if they want to give us Pauli Pauli or something for Hoffman.

Aaah you're finally here to comment Cult3 I was thinking about you today and wondering when you were going to drop your 2 cents in. Good to see you made it.

Haha cheers bud. I just don't like the fact that everyone says he carried that team. They're better across the park than they have been for years and I believe when people say he carries them it adds to people thinking he's so arrogant. I'd feel terrible playing for a one man team like that.

I've watched this twice so far today, might actually miss the bastard, he's so damn good.

The Hayne Wankfest is unbearable from the other side of the world. I can't imagine how bad it is in real time.

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

For mine, that is the problem. Hayne is so amazing because he can do just about all Rugby League things well. He is able to combine speed, strength etc, with the ability to step, quickly decelerate, accelerate, etc. He may not be the fastest, he may not be the strongest, he may not have the best fend, or step, or dummy, or acceleration, but he can combine them better than just about every player for the purposes of Rugby League. Is he going to seem so freakish if the scope of his role is much more narrow? I hope so, I love him as a player, but it'll be interesting to see.

The big question is can he do all that stuff with the mountains of padding they wear in the NFL.

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll coy about team signing Australian rugby star Jarryd Hayne - ESPN

The media needs to quit with the bullshit. Pete Carroll doesn't have a fucking clue who Hayne is. He's not a superstar once he leaves Australia.

Hayne is not on any teams radar. He's not going to the NFL Combine. He's going to maybe get a shot at mini camp (the camp before pre-season training even begins), then if he's lucky he'll make the 90 man roster which gets cut down to 53.

His timing is odd as well - his '12-month plan' is really a 6-9 month plan - season finishes at the end of January, pre-season games start in July. Not a lot of time to get himself ready. If he doesn't have a spot by April he's going to bob up and down for a while.

Maybe he can break from tradition and play unpadded like a real man's game! Start a revolution!

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

NFL season ends in Feb, may well go over there, realise he's in over his head and be back in the NRL for next season (with Roosters or Bulldogs obv)

although I'd imagine that the release would be conditional on him not playing for any other NRL team

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

Hayne signed a lifetime contract with the Eels so if he returns it's with them.

Seahawks link seems really odd as only Hester or Sproles could be called better than Harvin.

There's actually a betting market for which team he signs with and somehow Seahawks are favs.

If he was just released from that contract would the lifetime clause be valid?

It was only a joke really, he would most likely end up back at parra. That is if ReRo hasnt made the position his own (lol).

Re: Jarryd Hayne ---> NFL

He's so freakish in Rugby League because he combines a destructive running game with silky smooth ball playing skills/. Maybe he'll really miss the latter once he's playing NFL.
