Jordan Kahu released - Signs with Cowboys

$300-350k was pretty much what i thought i read. Probably about the same as what Kahu is on here. They would have no issues in fitting him under their cap even without losing Lowe.
Yes, I believe you're right and I'd guess Kahu is probably weighing his options here and that's the only likely holdup. I imagine he has a family or partner and if he only gets the same money moving may not be that attractive. Pretty sure Barba's contract was 300k and he didn't have great drawing power when negotiating his deal.

I suppose if they give him first shot at fullback it might tempt him. He is going to be playing ISC if he stays here.

No but it's funny the way their salary cap gets roostered. When they first sign the bloke he's fucking paying the ***** to let him play, now they've sacked him he's on several hundred thousand. By the end of the season he'll have been on a million.

not to mention there have been reports that they would be able to sign Val Holmes in April if he fails in his bid to play in the NFL ... and if you can afford to sign Val Holmes, then you will have zero difficulty affording Kahu
Sharks get first dig at Val if he comes back given technically he was under contract to them for 2019

I read that he was close to signing with the North Queensland Cowboys.
Regarding the signing I believe that was for 2020 as he's beyond November 1 in his last year... sharks would never release Val to another NRL club whilst under contract

Thanks mate. Wasn't sure of the details.

On topic,

I’m on the side of ‘if he can/wants to go, let him’. So long as it’s not discounted.

It’ll damage our depth, but we have Staggs as a first drop goal-kicking centre (something Jordan isn’t, he’s a winger/fullback). His absence may also spur on the younger backs to know they’re a bit closer to a debut

Also, who was the last true Bronco to leave and get better or come back to haunt us?

Jordy’s a good player, but not a great one. He’s on the smaller side, aging, and is highly injury-prone. If he can solidify a starting spot and get paid just as well if not better, then he should go. Added bonus is we can use his wage to help bump up Oates + TPJ 2020 offers etc

Ben Te'o? Petero?

Ben Te'o? Petero?

Te’o came via the Tigs, and he became a bit of a mercenary jumping codes and clubs. Would’ve loved for him to stick around though, no denying. I don’t think his leaving truly cost us however, outside a very good player.

Petero may be the exception to the rule (kinda forgot about that). Admin fucked that big time and lost us front row stability which we really needed post-Webcke and Bennett

So just wondering; what does any of this (the salary cap, a possible draft, the credibility of said draft, Terry Lamb, legal precedents, nurses, teachers, people not reading posts etc.) have to do with Jordan Kahu maybe moving to the Cowboys?

Just been announced that Kahu has been released to join the Cowboys. Good luck Jordan.

I hope we aren't kicking in any money for this. As for Kahu, good luck to him. He is a solid winger/fullback but not a good enough defender to be a centre. He will go alright for the Cowboys.

Poor decision. Hope it doesn't come back to bite us. Thx for the service Jordan.

Broncos Release Jordan Kahu

broncos.com.au

THE Broncos today confirm they have released Jordan Kahu from his contract.
Kahu has come through the Broncos’ system, playing in the National Youth Competition under-20s team, before making his NRL debut in round four of 2013.

Since that debut Kahu has played 95 NRL matches for the Broncos, and has represented in nine Tests for the New Zealand Kiwis.
He played for the Maori All Stars against the Indigenous All Stars just last weekend.

Chief executive Paul White thanked Kahu for his service to the Broncos.

“We wish Jordan and his family all the best in what will be a new and exciting opportunity for them,” said White.
“He has always been an exemplary member of our club and been a wonderful representative of the Broncos both on and off the field.

“It is sad for the Broncos to see him depart Brisbane, but he will always be welcome back here at the club.”

Smart from the Broncos as it will help us retain key jrs, good move by Kahu because he will get to start at FB, desperate from the Cows because they just spent big for an older player with a history of injuries. All in all a massive win for Broncos fans.

Kahu signs with Cowboys after release from Brisbane

The Cowboys have successfully lured Broncos utility back Jordan Kahu north to Townsville after six years with Brisbane, North Queensland have announced.

Fresh from the New Zealand Maori All Stars camp in Melbourne, the 28-year-old was in North Queensland on Monday, training with his new teammates.

He is a great signing for the Cowboys and a timely one at that since the club was reeling from the loss of fullback Ben Barba following his domestic violence incident caught on security cameras at Townsville casino.

Kahu has played No.1 as well as centre and wing in his 95 games with the Broncos, which are highlighted by his 42 tries.
He also has nine caps with the New Zealand Kiwis playing all three positions.

Kahu is a solid goal-kicking option following the retirement of Johnathan Thurston, booting 145 goals from 188 attempts at 77 per cent over the course of his career.

"To pick up a player of Jordan’s ability and experience at this stage of the pre-season is a massive bonus for us," Cowboys coach Paul Green said.

"He gives us depth at a number of positions, he’s a very good centre and he’s played wing and fullback as well.

"His goal kicking ability is the added bonus on top of everything else he offers."

Kahu has signed a one-year deal with North Queensland.
