Langer gone. Who is attacking coach next season?

Melbourne were well structured and coached to the highest level when Kearney was there and Bennett was a great assist to him in 2008 when the Kiwis lifted the world cup. Got no problems with him joining the Broncos as Hook is a very good coach and Kearney had success when assisting a great coach.

Not in 2010.

Experience is experience and you won't find much better in the open market other than Sheens.

Going off his record Kearney would be one of the most successful assistant coaches I believe.

I am very cautiously excited about Stephen Kearney.

He got thrown in the deep end with the Eels with a squad of volatile players and a club that has no idea how to run itself.

Then again, at times throughout the year he looked completely lost - maybe he knew how to run a successful team (like the Storm) but not how to get a shit team out of a slump.

Hope that it does not lead to conflict between Griffin and Kearney as to who is calling the shots.

Seems like the Bellamy Academy of Non-Attacking League (BANAL) is producing a lot of clone coaches playing boring Bellamy football.

BANAL - it wins premierships... Nuff said

I prefer Hasler Attacking Forward Style (HAFS). It's won 2 premierships and made 4 grand finals and is actually good to watch

I assume you made a mistake with your English there. It has won a premiership. There are no premierships... Storm and Bellamy don't get any credit for the years of cap cheating :)

LOL Hasler attacking forward Style dating back to the 1920's(A very strong football side in this decade, In 1924, the team defeated England, New Zealand, Brisbane, Ipswich, the New South Wales state side and New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership holders, South Sydney.) that was used by the Toowoomba Clydesdales years before Hasler was even born.

It reminds me a lot of a style that WB used at Souths many years ago, called contract football (I think). Their forwards would run in numbers (usually 3) the first runner would hit and spin then pass to next runner and so on. When they got it right it was really hard to defend.

Thanks GC that was interesting reading. Confirms what I wasn't sure about when I posted ^ a couple of weeks ago re the contract football but I had no idea where it originally came from.

Yeah I just love how people carry on about all this supposed "new" stuff yet you look a bit back in the history of the game and its been there before, at best its been refined but still was there. Even Bellamy's wrestle tactics isn't anything new, Conescu was a master at it.

Whether it's new or not, it's the only decent alternative to BANAL or Bennett Ball which bores opposition into submission.

Oh absolutely Coxy and Hasler deserves a lot of credit for adapting the style to todays defensive structures, I want to see more of it. Maybe not to the extent that it becomes repetitive in itself though which is ultimately why the dogs got beaten in the GF. They had no plan B.

The style will be successful again next year and more teams will play that way but Melb showed how to defend it so I'd expect a few more changes will be added, like a few chips to the wingers or long balls if defences get too aggressive.
It should make for some really good footy.

Yep, every style of play has a way to be counteracted. The stupidity of the last 5 years is that teams have tried to beat the Storm by joining them. You can't out-Storm the Storm.

I wonder what our style of play is...

Score a couple of tries and hope to hold on, if no points come just praise the effort.

LOL. That seems to fit the way we played to end the season. Score early and pray to the football gods no points are conceded.
