I 100% agree with you that he is a handy footballer. I'm saying that Ancelloti got him for a special reason, not as a bench warmer as many of you guys think so. I'm pleased his with us next year. The only down side is that he's 30, not that it matters. We're probably getting Alan Dzagoev from CSKA Moscow anyway or bastian Schweinsteiger from bayern Munich so we're not lacking in the midfield when he does retire.

I have every confidence that Yossi will be handy for us in the next few years.

Whats the point in bringing a 30 yr old into an already ageing squad just as a bench warmer? No point in that is there?

Thats why I think he has special plans for him. Essien will be a defensive midfielder, Mikel will be a defensive midfielder so Yossi will be used in the attacking midfield alongside lampard.

I think there is plenty of reasons to bring in a 30 year old like Benayoun as a bench warmer. He is matured and skillful, someone who can come on and keep things calm towards the end of games as well as being good cover for injuries. And while I say he is handy, and he is, he's not quite the world beater Chelsea need to spearhead their attack from midfield if they want to win the Champions league and retain the Premier league.

Not a bad swap for Benayoun really, 18 month younger, probably cheaper (6m from Benayoun would help cover his wages on top of what Benayoun was earning)

If Brukner can get him fit, he will fit in nicely along with Gerrard, Maxi, and Jovo... really happy with this signing, not everything is dooom and gloom when news like this comes along. Now for a left back!

Hopefully Cole will be scoring goals for us, not against us anymore in no time!

Look at it like this, Chelsea have basically given us 5m + Cole, in exchange for Benayoun. I think we definitely got the better deal there!

His injury problems are a concern, but I'm confident he'll be fine.

Why should he take a paycut when those around him aren't? He was an essential squad member under Mourinho and Grant and obviously Ancelotti had no faith he could return from injury at the same level. This is so dumb by Chelsea they have f-all wide players in their squad and they let one of the genuine ones they have go for free!
