McGuire isn't paid to offload, he is paid to make metres up the middle. Offloads are left mainly to second rowers on the fringes. Im not the slightest concerned if he doesn't offload once all year. His job is to run up the middle and defend in the middle. Leave the flashy plays to blokes like Gillett and Parker who are capable at offloading properly and not giving away cheap possession.

I'm a fan of his but he's been very inconsistent over the years. Remember he was wreaking havoc in 2009 - could have gone on with it a lot earlier than this year. He also has a tendency to give away silly penalties at crucial times. He needs to correct that in his game. that's the reason I hope we pass on him for Origin. There is a lot of grubby play and cheap shots that get overlooked - hard to tell if McGuire can handle that without flying off the handle.

I disagree with everything you said.

I can't see how he can be described as inconsistent, in fact I think he has been one of our most consistent outside of Parker.

He will give away a penalty hear and there but no more than anyone else.

McGuire is a good player who really should be a star by now.

CaptainHook is fairly spot on about him, the only mistake is that he got his dates wrong but if anything, it sort of just shows how bad these past few years have been and how they run together. 2011/2009, same years really, both made the prelim, lost a key playmaker, had no chance and played accordingly.

Whether it's right or wrong, McGuire is a penalty magnet. The referees target him at times and he gets called on things most others don't but he's developed a reputation and he needs to be mindful of it.

He's also an arm grabber.

And his ball-playing has turned to crap. His slight of hand was a big feature of his NYC game, in the NRL, he's often tried but he passes have sucked and absolutely killed a number of our sets dead.

Those are all issues but he's also a rare talent who wears his heart on his sleeve and says all the right things in the media. Course the members on here are going to support him.
