Michael Devere a true Legend of the game

The Sunday Mail reports Devere is pushing for a starting spot.... Now I am fine for him to play centre if Injuries strike and in the Origin period but cmon get real surely Henjak doesn't think dropping a young gun will be good for the Broncos.

Michaels has been anything but a young gun lately.

If De Vere is in the side again this week I will not be happy we have better options in the 3/4 line and he showed us all he is no value coming off the bench.

Really though, what centre do we have that would have been better value off the bench when made to play in the second row for their first time?

Edit: You mean if he is actually put on the bench, not in the starting side. De Vere won't be on the bench again, he was there to begin with only because members of our backline are sick and still are.

Yeh but why wasnt he sent to the q cup first to see if he can cope with that. Cmon the guy come out of retirement doesnt matter how fit you kept yourself there is no substitute for match fitness. That wasnt even fair a De vere .

I don't think he would have got on in the backrow if it wasn't for Teo injuring himself. He's out for 2 weeks with a dodgy ankle.

One thing that does concern me however is that in todays paper it has Devere not playing any Qcup... instead he wants to stay fresh for any chance he may get in first grade.

Like has been mentioned before.. there is no substitute for match fitness.

I have been a harsh critic on Devere but I see no reason if he plays some QLD cup he can't preform for the Broncos come Origin time. If his form is good enough during Origin he might be able to cement a spot. They are stupid to think he can just come out all guns blazing after years out of the game and no match fitness. Shame on you coaching staff.

I read the paper today, and something De Vere was quoted as saying seemed to suggest that if he doesn't get selected for the Broncos, he won't bother playing QCup, and he'll just not play until he is selected for the Broncos. Like, still train with them and all that, but not play in the lower grades if he doesn't make the cut.

Thoughts on that?

Train hard then Mick, because you shouldn't see a Broncos jumper unless you have match fitness and form.

Precisely what I thought. I can't remember the exact quote but I read it a couple of times to make sure I was reading it correctly!

I read that too, that is an insult to every person plying there trade in QLD Cup week in week out and an insult to all the Bronco fringe outside backs who work there arses off like he does at training and have to lace up in QLD Cup when they don't get a run in the firsts.

If the quote is accurate, he is pathetic.

Well if thats his attitude then really he shouldn't be selected, although I'm a fan of his and think he can contribute to the side he has to show he can and that means playing in the lower grades, I'm not going to bag the guy but I must say I am disappointed in that from him. If on the otherhand its the Broncos who only want him playing first grade then its not his fault.

If the quote is accurate he shouldn't really play for the Broncos again.

Very poor attitude to have.

**** him off if this is correct. Who does he think he is? He has come back to the club, tbh the only reason they are giving him a run is because of his past service, but that don't mean he should be in the 17 by default.

Frankly I can't believe the club got him back and he is probably the slowest and least skilful of all the top 25 backs.

Not doubting you Jeb, but that just doesn't sound right to me. No matter what the consensus is on Devere as a player, he has always seemed like a decent, humble guy.

I think I'll assume he was misquoted until I see those words come out of his or Henjak's mouth.

Yeh I'm not ruling that out either, but it was a direct quote, and as I said I read it a few times and couldn't really think of another context for it. Bugger me throwing the paper out!

I was told by someone who has inside info on the broncos that De Vere doesn't want to play Qld Cup because he thinks he is too good for QLD cup.

Well if lyn's "inside scoop" isn't true, could it be that he doesn't want to steal QLD Cup game time from a youngster trying to break into that side?

I know you could say that's exactly what he's doing by playing for the Broncos, but my understanding is that he was only going to be used when/if they require his "experience".

Food for thought.
