NEWS Milford: I want to stay

The difference I guess, is that Milford has actually performed exceptionally at NRL level, but Dearden hasn’t...
Yes, and as I said, Dearden was a literal child the last time Milford did that regularly.

I'm not convinced he's anything special yet either, but he isn't experienced enough to be a special player. He isn't paid to be a special player yet. He's a teenager who didn't even really get the benefit of proper Queensland Cup footy before being thrown into a basket case side and he's done about as well as any reasonable person could expect in those circumstances. The fact he managed to be as effective or even better than his vastly more experienced, vastly more highly paid colleague in those exact same circumstances suggests should be ringing major alarm bells for this supposed 'special' player, not the teenager. That's the point, and it shouldn't be a difficult one to grasp.

Given he’s played 17 games across 2 seasons in one of the worst performing teams of the modern era, all whilst having multiple different halves partners and even more revolving players in other positions around him, I’d just like to know; what exceptional football do you believe he should have produced in this time?
A kicking game that extends past 30 metres would be a nice start.

Quite right. How indeed could an exceptional player, play well unless everybody else does as well?

We have never ever seen a player in a team playing at a level far beyond what everyone else in that team is doing... 🙄

Which is ironic, because we have also never seen Tom play at a level far beyond what anyone else in the Broncs has been doing...

I wish the lad well, hope he becomes a great of the game. There is just nothing whatsoever he has done in the NRL to suggest he will, as yet.
You’ve written a lot of words but have done a fantastic job of not answering the question. If I didn’t know you were a cop, I’d swear you were a politician.

So if you’re not going to provide any actual answers to the original question, I’ll ask another. Given your response, you’re clearly expecting Dearden to be elite straight out of the gates, so please identify a rookie that has come into a basket case club and singlehandedly turned their fortunes around in under 20 games.

In isolation, that’s a very fair criticism of Dearden’s game.

However, in the context of the discussion around Dearden being criticised whilst Milford is excepted; Milford didn’t develop his kicking game until around 2017 / 18 (which he has subsequently lost), so around 100 games into his career.

I should be clear, I don’t know if Dearden is the saviour some make him out to be, but I’m sure as shit not going to write him off based on 17 games in the worst Broncos team in history like others are. As far as I’m concerned, he’s fair game if he’s still not delivering when he’s chalked up 50-100 games.

I would like to formally announce I am on Team Tom. Anyone else with me?

I'll give a shit about Tom when he
A) Starts showing he's first grade material
B) When he doesn't take tours of competitors when he's still a nobody and has only just cracked first grade at the club that developed him.

Too many big headed juniors.

This.
I like Tom, and reckon he might be a potentially excellent player in the future.
But the tour of the cowboys facilities put me right off.

It may be the norm to do this in rugby league circles but it just stinks of disloyalty to me.
In a perfect world he is the next big thing and is a one club player, but as is evident by the 2020 season its far from perfect and wouldn't be surprised to see him end up at another club before too long.

Yep, same with Coates I'm a bit over these young guys at the moment.

You bring them through the club, give them a start but then without a second thought whilst still under contract they are happy to lift their skirt and say 'show me the money' to anybody else who shows a bit of interest.

He did nothing wrong. If the Broncos can't beat the Cowboys offer, what has this club come to?

I know, it just feels shitty to see a prospect touring other facilities at this super early stage in his career.
Its perfectly fine for him to do that, and he is breaking no rules, i just didn't like it lol.

I am one of the biggest critics of Milford here, but one thing i will give him total credit for is his desire to stay a Bronco for the rest of his career and he is not out there whoring his wares to other clubs while still on contract.
Would be nice to see that same kind of attitude from these entitled kids who just won the Broncos first ever wooden spoon.

Who's writing him off though?

Also lol at the tough guys talking about squaring up over posts on bhq.

Well yeah, but we've been paying Milford three times what he's worth. And he sold out Canberra to get it. The least he can do is be happy with the club for lining his pockets so generously.

Tom, on the other hand, is only starting out, and now is the time for him to decide on a club before he settles down. Being both a Nth QLD and Gold Coast boy, it makes sense for him to check out what the Cowboys and Titans have to offer compared to the Broncos, who are currently wooden spooners. He needs to wet his dick before buying a ring.

Other than when he was flying down to Melbourne to tour their facilities back in 2017 mid-season, which helped him snag a pretty good deal!
Did he, i must have missed that.
