Milford's weight

Hoops and Corvo should sleep restless tonight, knowing so many people can easily do better than them.

Milford was 85kgs and killing it with his pace and agility at Canberra.

With us he is 93kgs and is playing like a busted...

Maybe Hoops and Corvo should trying doing whatever Canberra did for him, because pace and agility aren't exactly his 'hallmark' at present.

What? Play him at fullback and remove at least 3 years off his age? Yeah sweet.

No, get him in shape and work hard with him on bringing back the strongest parts of his game. His pace and elusiveness. The whole idea of 'bulk everyone up so they can defend in the line' is utter garbage. JT defends on the bloody wing for the Cows, why not put Milford there if he is such a liability in defence (and he is despite his bulking up) and keep his assets to our team?

Only 4 starting halves in the whole comp are heavier than him according to the stats on the front page of this thread and that is because those 4 are all physically much larger, being up to 10cms taller and bigger framed, in most cases.

Boyd is being talked about as our next 5/8. So how much will he have to gain to defend in the line? Will he have to put on 8 kegs as well, so that we have a 103kg 5/8 running (waddling) around with a BMI of 30?

Just going to bump this thread so we can tidy this place up a bit, certain people are derailing virtually every thread by bringing Milford's weight in to it, let's try and keep it all in here shall we?

In regards to people joking about his weight, it's not really a laughing matter unfortunately, I just took the liberty of running all of the halves in the entire NRL (height & weight) through a BMI calculator, it's quite alarming, every single one of them is in the 25-28 region except for one.. you guessed it.. Anthony Milford, who has a BMI of 30+ (Which makes him technically the only obese half in the entire NRL) - Just so everyone knows what that translates to in non-technical terms, Milford would have to lose 8-12 kg's to have the same BMI as Thurston, Cronk and the majority of other elite halves in the comp.

Surely we're not going to completely dismiss the fact that the other 31 halves in the NRL are at an ideal playing weight and Milford isn't.. I think it's a legitimate issue that we shouldn't be joking about, he needs help from the training staff to get back to his optimal weight, I honestly believe it's messing with him physically and mentally. We've seen what he's capable of doing while he's obese, imagine him at his peak fitness..

I think all 90 plus kilograms of him did pretty well last week against the Roosters. The dude has strong legs and hips and is solid for sure. I don't know that he needs to get down to the weight he was playing at the Raiders, but 5kg less would probably help him. Isn't he likely to shed the weight as the season draws out?

Watching him run onto that offload from Sims in the lead up to the Hunt no try, I actually don't think anyone has anything to worry about when it comes to his speed.

He came from a fair way back to get there in time for the offload.

It's probable that he'll drop a couple of kilos as the season goes on like he did in 2015 and round out in to a really nice season, but I mean seriously, he's a professional athlete, we as fans shouldn't have to wait 6-8 weeks for him to shed his Christmas weight to start performing up to his pay grade. That's called the Thaiday treatment, it's not the end of the world for a forward to come in to the season carrying a few extra pounds, often because they've been trying to bulk up in the off-season.. But for a half who relies on his speed, that's just not acceptable.

I have no doubt that he's still fast, faster than most, but we shouldn't be settling for what he's dishing up right now, he's capable of being a lot faster and a lot better.

First of all, not a single Broncos (and probably very few NRL) player is in the normal BMI range. They are all either overweight or obese, with their BMI ranging from 27 to 35, with Thaiday topping the scale (no surprise).
If Milford was 1 Kg lighter than what the Broncos site says, his BMI would be 29, and another 3 Kgs less (and not 8-12) to have Thurston's or Cronk's BMI of 28.

This is based on his profile on the Broncos website. According to other sites, including the NRL website, his BMI is 28-29.
@Smokin' Joe , is the Broncos profile correct?

Comparing forwards BMI to halves hey? That's getting desperate. I used halves exclusively because they generally have the same type of body, thus making BMI a relevant tool of comparison.

Also, please don't fabricate stats to try and strength your claims, Thurston has a BMI at the low end of 27, for Milford to have the same BMI he would have to lose 9 kg, as I said.. 8-12..

I went through all of them, a vast majority are 26-27, with the highest I found being 28. Milford being 30 isn't acceptable. You may consider it to be acceptable in whatever your walk of life may be, but for half in the NRL, it's not.

You're using BMI, which does NOT take muscle mass and bone density into account, to call an intervention into Milford's obesity (by a single kilo), and I'm the desperate one... that's hilarious!

I said every Broncos (and NRL) player is overweight or obese, according to the BMI scale. FACT!

I don't fabricate stats to suit my purposes, so I can mention the one that suits my agenda most, like your Thurston example.
He may be 9 Kgs away from Thurston, but he's only about 4-5 Kgs away from Cronk, Taylor, Sezer, Townsend, Foran or Johnson for example, which are all hovering on the BMI border between 27 and 28.

Importantly, the above is based on the Broncos site (93 Kgs), which is not exactly known for its accurate information. If we use the NRL site's information (90 Kgs), he's suddenly 1-2 Kgs away from those guys, which is why I'd like to know his actual weight.

Quick, better send these figures to Corvo and Co. They must of missed this.

I don't think I have ever met someone so obsessed with people's weight.

Seriously, photoshopping Milford put it in to perspective for me. Trying to fatten up his arms, face, belly. I had to distort it a LOT, and the results still look quite subtle.

So see what you think. This is fat Milford...

FatMilford

And this is not fat Milford...

NotFatMilford

Certainly doesn't look overweight to me.

Did you superimpose your own gut to use for fat Milford?
