Mitchell Pearce Incident

There was an article on news.com.au that appeared briefly and disappeared, how "what makes us aussie", ie, drinking and acting stupid, is no longer the case. More sensationalist bullshit. We still know how to have a good time. And it's never been okay to go too far.

If Pearce wasn't a public figure, would there be an outcry over what he did? No. But if Pearce wasn't a public figure, someone would have slapped him, told him what a **** he was being, and taken him outside to be hosed down and left to dry / think about his actions on the front lawn.

One thing I do wonder is, if people more familiar with Pearce were with him, would they have let him have that one too many drinks? Allegedly it was Copley, JNik and SKD with him. Maybe the rookies were too embarassed to say anything or didn't know what he was like, maybe SKD was too wasted himself or like the others too embarassed to speak up. That's not putting the blame on others. Quite the opposite. It would be pathetic if Pearce has had to be "managed" his whole life. Others needing to intervene to stop him going over, or whisking him away when he does. With his precious, pampered existence, he probably hasn't learned how to identify the signs or control himself. Maybe rehab can actually help him in this regard. For mine though, this isn;t alcoholism. This is just a kid who's had every leg up possible. He'd get the same "help" by having his contract torn up, live in the real world, and made to learn his lessons like the rest of us. At least then he'd appreciate the life he has, more than he would in an expensive clinic.

Because we live in a world with technology all around us at our fingertips it's been making me think about how some players might have acted in the past whilst out on the drink or out in general. Players in the past might have done stupid things but because there was no way to film it it never got out in the public eye. Not saying that they were fucking dogs or whatever but still.

Of course. There are players right now that are doing this shit, but for whatever reason aren't getting exposed. The more players that do get exposed, the more the rest will think twice. It's a good thing IMO.

It is irrelevant whether the guy who filmed it is a **** or not. He would have had nothing to film if Pearce had not got on the drink the way that he did. Sure it seems like a scumbag act to say they want to end someones career, but at the end of the day Mitchell Pearce gave him that opportunity, nobody else.

There are a few different arguments on this, yes Pearce is a fucktard and yes he should know everyone has a camera BUT I am firmly in the camp that what happens in a private situation should remain there unless it is illegal.
I hope no one reads this as a defence of his behavior because it's not.

I can't get my head around anyone who would deliberately record and sell something like this and justify it to themselves by saying well he deserves it so it's ok when its really the money and nothing else, anything if the price is right, yeah?

Who the **** has that right to judge someone and just decide I'm going to end his career, just like that, by putting them out there for all to see.

As for the media taking the moral angle saying how the kiddies adore him and look what hes done, hes a role model blah blah. If they're so concerned about the kids don't show it. Money again .

I'd much rather a bit of fuckwitnes go unexposed than have ppl secretly recording it to turn a dollar.

I'm not defending whomever did the video recording, although I admit I probably would do the same, not premeditatedly to earn money or destroy the player's career, but because I believe such behaviour needs to be eradicated, and as such, needs to be exposed.

Once again, I must stress that he is a guest at someone's house, where he has absolutely no right to expect privacy or secrecy upon his actions.
There's no way I would let this happen nowadays, but if this were my home, my wife/gf and my dog, make no mistake... I would definitely make the video public, and if I could get money for it, it would only sweeten the deal.

I doubt whoever was recording was expecting to get what he got.

That's correct, in someones house, a private situation.

Ever been at a mates house drinking and said something you shouldn't about another mate or his missus? Or had a few work colleagues over and bagged the boss.? How would you like that to be recorded and circulated ?

Why is it so hard for these so called professional athletes to not drink. Its then a big major attention seeking act when they impose an alcohol ban on themselves for 2 months. Pathetic.

It would be interesting to see everyone's reaction if one of our star players is ever filmed behaving badly in someone's home. There isn't exactly alot of love for MP on this forum or anywhere in Qld.

Depends what kind of history they have. And that's what sets Bennett apart, he doesn't tolerate that stuff. Young and stupid, might get a second chance. But if there's even a whisper of an older player acting up, he'd be quick to put the hard word on them.

As much as i dislike pearce and think he should get a consequence from the nrl i think who ever filmed him set him up big time. INthe end it was the wrong thing to do but i think he was just having a joke and the person who filmed him was trtying ot set him up for the 70,000 dollars they got for selling the story

Pissing on himself, and someone elses furniture; forcing himself on a woman and pretending to **** her dog ... is NOT a joke.

also I doubt the guy who filmed it was expecting all of that to happen, but was just filming the night ... and surely he had the camera (or phone) going long before all that happened, so Pearce should have seen it, and still acted that way anyway.

I guess that's where we differ.

Our view of private is completely different.

Own home - private.

At a mate's place with people you know - private(ish).

At someone's house you don't know - not private.

Just because he's at someone's private home, doesn't mean his actions are done in private (in my opinion).

So in that situation MP can't record something that includes the home owner because she's in her own home and it's private but they can record him because he's invited in and then that's not private?

Hmm, someone should put the rules at the door.

Spot on.

From what I understand this guy wasn't mates with Mitch and didn't even know him before to night. Why do people think he owes Mitch any favours? If any stranger came into my/my mates house and acted like a complete ball bag, pissing everywhere and being obnoxious I'd tell him to **** off. If that stranger was a real prick and a celebrity, I'd film it without hesitation, and if offered decent money I wouldn't think twice about selling it.

Mitch gets tanked, and acts like a right **** in a stranger's house than expects them to turn down $60k so the world doesn't get reminded that he's a drop kick? What kind of shit is that. If he didn't want me going to the media he'd want to have uncle nick open his wallet for me.

Is preserving some entitled, obnoxious league player's public image worth a years salary to me? Absolutely not. I'd be saying cheers for the down payment on my new home, Junior.

Then, Copley and Jayden. I feel for these kids; their heads must be reeling.

Dunno, this could be good for them. It's a very direct demonstration of how badly things can go wrong if they act up and hopefully they can both learn from Pearce's mistakes.
