I know it was Australia Day, but I would've thought most clubs' probable booze bans would be in full effect seeing as either trials are around the corner, you're going to England for WCC or NZ for the Nines, so they should be building up pre-season pretty solidly ready for the start of the year.

Bothered me seeing Dale there. Could tell he wasn't keen on the situation. Tough for the kid going to a new club/city and your captain (I'm assuming) invites you along to get to know the team with a few drinks and then makes an absolute asshat out himself.

Pearce and Sticky Fingers Fergo were never going to be a good combination at some point, especially now he's 'clean' after his redemption last season

I hope he at least gets banned for the first 4 weeks of the actual NRL competition to send a strong message. I'd also like to see him have to do community work in his own time. If the game is to lift its standards we need to come down harder and harder on these types of clowns.

And that is the very issue, the NRL will never make an example of the big names at their darling clubs. If this was Joe Fringefirstgrade at the raiders etc. the NRL would come down on him with their full force.

Genuine question, not an argument. He was not in a public place, presumably was invited in before he disgraced himself and left when he was told his welcome had ended.

He's out with members of the public, which makes his right for privacy non-existent. Like I said, if he was with his mates in his own home, he could argue right for privacy, but even though he wasn't out 'in public' he was still with members of the public.

I mean, seriously, why is there any amount of standing up for this guy. He earns a serious amount of money and is surely trained on how to handle himself in these situations. What he did was pathetic. It is THAT bad and should not be defended in any way.

Mitchell Pearce needs help, that I do agree with, what I don't agree with is that his actions should be defended, even in the slightest way.

I'd hate to have my worst moments filmed and splashed on the net for all to see.

Laws are being introduced to stop selfies, sex videos etc which are sent to partners to stop them being put them on the net .
I seriously don't think being out with members of the public is a valid point unless you are in a public space.

If you go to a private party presumably by invitation I would think you have an expectation that what you do is not going to be filmed and splashed all over the world.

It affects so many others (immediate family) who are not responsible for his actions. These ppl did this for money, no other reason.

Privacy issues aside, the guy is a first class twat and regardless of how the incident was made public he has a long enough history and proven record of not learning from mistakes.

He will IMO be cut loose by the NRL

Though I think this is all too convenient for the Roosters. They can now sack Pearce for anything they deem inappropriate, so when Hayne or SBW decide they want back in the NRL, there's more than half of their contract value freed up.

Worse, but not 1000x. Just one of the myriad of stupid things that Pearce did was attempt to intimately touch a person who clearly told him not to. While a kiss is different to playing bowling ball or striking someone, it's still in the same genre.

This in response to you and Spwn, as a one off event you are both right and the type of punishment being suggested by the DT would be appropriate. But, there are other circumstances involved here:-

1. He is 26 years of age and has been playing first grade for 7 years, of itself that means he should know better;
2. He is an Origin player and therefore whether you like it or not, he carries a greater responsibility to the game, his club and to the NRL regarding his behaviour and how he portrays himself.
3. He is the co-captain of his club, ergo all of the above also apply; and
4. Most importantly he has form going back to when he was 19 for incidents where he is out on the piss, and from what I read it is alleged that there have been other incidents (including recent ones) that have been swept under the carpet.

Given the above he will be lucky not to be cut loose, at the very least he should sit out the season in my view to try and get a wake up call and get some counselling about alcohol.
