NRL bans shoulder charges

What did everybody make of the George Rose penalty last night?

Bit of a laugh?

Yeah, it was a complete joke. Every day of the week that is a fantastic tackle and in no way should be a penalty. It just shows the ridiculous of banning the shoulder charge.

A complete joke. The only reason the game should been stopped by the ref is for him to say "great tackle! Yabba dabba dooooo"

They missed Inglis' shot, this rule has the potential to ruin games.

What happened?

Some members don't care for stupid exhibition matches that have dumb rules and supid dancing by white fellas who paint the front of their body black but forget about their back.

So annoying when an adminstration has to bring in new rules to hinder someones playing ability (GI for example).

Correct penalty. Next time Rose will try to make a tackle

If it's because the tackler led with his head, then yes. But then the tackler should just be penalised for being a dickhead

They get penalised with CTE in old age.

That would be hard to rule, same with this BS shoulder charge rule. What is/isn't a shoulder charge? How do we know when someone was definitely leading with the head etc.

I still stand by shoulder charges are fine - however if you make shoulder to head contact, it's gonna be at least 2-4 weeks.

i cant believe they didnt pull up Inglis' shoulder charge lol.

great shot, but by the (stupid new) rule it shouldve been a penalty.

Rose's shoulder charge was instinctive and probably unavoiable as Morris changed direction.

The problem is all tackles have impact with the shoulder first. It's the delay between the arms being involved that is the problem.

The rule change will not prevent serious concussions or Te'o on Groat like scenarios.

Should the Rose shoulder charge penalty cost a team a game?

Yes well that's a given but its a farce that a nothing tackle like that could cost a team a game.

I can see this being changed mid season

lets not forget that a big well timed shoulder charge can be a game changer - how many times have we seen balls dropped and possession turned over from a big ol' legal shoulder charge? that extra time blinder between wests and the roosters wouldve just been nothing had it not been for a well timed shoulder charge by dwyer (even though it actually worked out bad for his team lol).

its always been a go to play when you need to try and get the ball back. now its illegal.

still cant believe the NRL has come to this.

You can jolt the ball loose with a good tackle too. See Peter Ryan, Tonie Carroll, Trevor Gillmeister for examples.

you can, no doubt. but you can also do it with a shoulder charge, and if youre good at it its easier than doing it with a regulation tackle.

Here's the GI shot for those after a reminder.

That's a really borderline example and I'd be interested to hear what Daniel Anderson would have to say about it. It could be argued that because he got his arm involved that it was a 'tackle' but gee if it looks like and has a similar impact as a shoulder charge...chances are...
