We''ll see if you still fell that way, Coxy.

A shoulder charge is never going to cost a game, if you lose a game because of a shoulder charge you werent gonna win anyway
Thanks Gus. Drama queen :-P
Well seriously, the people upset about shoulder charges being banned are having a massive sook.
Personally I wouldn't care if they're banned or not, I can understand why they did and i think we should wait until we see it in action for a while.
The way some are carrying on you'd think it's going to destroy the sport. What a joke. They're banned in junior grades anyway, the kids coming through are no less tough

Anonymous Person said:so a fullback giving away an 8 point try for attempting a shoulder charge on a guy whos probably going to score wont cost someone a game? and if it does, that team wasnt going to win anyway? any number of small indiscretions can cost a team a game these day with the huge advantage a penalty gives.
Why would the fullback attempt a shoulder charge? Most times I've seen a fullback attempt a shoulder charge it's due to laziness or they're wannabe AFL players. If the concern is coming over the sideline, there's nothing stopping them leading with the arms.
When it comes to Origin, I'd imagine there would be discretion shown towards the boderline examples (let's assume GI is the precedent). Otherwise, yep, it's gone. Boys will just have to tackle the old fashioned way.
AP said:99% of the attempted tackles on a winger whos a few metres out of the sideline from a cover defender, often the fullback, are shoulder charges. billy slater in particular does it nearly every time, and is extremely effective at stopping tries.
what a stupid thing to say lol.

1 thing i love that we're now not going to see is the customary HUGE hits at the start of every state of origin match. the first set, especially the first tackle, is usually a big old classic shoulder charge by the first defender, and its usually a corker. not anymore :(
Like I said, nothing is stopping them from leading with adjusting it and leading with the arms or heaven forbid make a tackle.
A fair amount of the time, those shoulder attempts were the wrong option and the guy scores easily because Slater is a midget.
Rational as always AP!
more often than not slater saves the try if he gets there in time, even from shoulder charges. also, if you cant see the difference in effectiveness from launching your 90kg frame shoulder-first into someone versus leading with your arms in a last ditch sprinting across field attempt to save a try, then i may as well not even bother finishing this conversation. you get a lot more force from using your shoulder than your arms.
lol. so what i say is irrational, but your absolute of:
"A shoulder charge is never going to cost a game"
is completely rational? pull the other one mate.
