I don't think it's that simple though. I just remember something about Watmough having to get some clearance from a Doctor saying he could never play again.

Different situation. Watmough was getting a medical retirement which means his contract would be paid out in full with the portion paid after his retirement exempt from the cap. To stop clubs abusing this, and for insurance purposes, any player seeking a medical retirement needs medical assessments to prove to the NRL's satisfaction that the player has a genuine injury and can no longer play.

Foran's getting a mutually agreed release to deal with his personal issues, so the Eels won't have to pay him a cent after the contract is terminated and no medical assessment is needed.

It was mutual in that when WB said "Ben find another club we don't want you" he said "okay" instead of "**** you I'm staying and you can pay me to play reserve grade."

I know a lot of you guys are clambering for a big body - he's one of those but I wouldn't want him in the side unless it's for a reaaaal cheap. Which it certainly wouldn't be.

Cooper Cronk re-signs with Melbourne Storm in two-year extension to NRL deal - Sport - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

If Cronk's at 293 games now, he'll give Lockyer's games played record a shake after the next 2 seasons.
Cronk could end up between 354 and 357 depending on injuries, finals and Origin.
