[OFFICIAL] Anthony Milford to Broncos

Economically, it would have been a stupid decision from the Raiders.

What would they be paying the kid when he's 28 and in his prime? $3.2 million a season??

And what if he goes off the Rails like Carney, Dugan and Ferguson?

When will the Raiders learn that throwing massive money at young players can't fix their issues. They have cultural problems that need to be addressed.

Guys. Im not sure if this intel is relevant with whats going on with Tony or not, BUT, with all this craziness currently happening around the 'will he sign or not' drama, I thought I would post anyway. Yesterday at Inala Plaza, the older, larger Pacific Islander man I saw with Tony some weeks ago was again walking around the plaza. I did follow him close by for several minutes to try to listen in on any conversation he had with the woman he was with - Tonys mum/aunt possibly? Anyway, Halo then quickly diverted into the Lowes clothing emporium and was in there for around 20mins. He eventually came out of the store carrying several bags. ONE of which contained some of the Lowes Broncos supporters gear (tshirts, beanies etc) NOW, maybe this was just a coincidence, but. It seems quite strange none the less. He was also grinning wildly. Well, we have to wait till Nov the 1st to know for sure I guess. Crosses fingers :)

Win win, we either keep him or make you guys pay more

Lol, thats classic.

It is lose lose scenario for the Raiders. You either lose the player or we force you to pay around 800k more a year than you would have starting next year if the Broncos had no interest in Milford.

If Milford decides to stay at Canberra the Broncos have lost nothing, absolutely nothing changes.

Regardless, the million dollar nonsense from Ricky will not change Brisbanes offer. I've said this before, maybe in another forum, but when you are 19 or 20 years of age a salary of 600k (if true) is already a huge deal. For someone from a relatively low socio economic background they can buy everything they want with that. The increase to $1M is not as big as it sounds, especially if it means being away from family, friends, partners and the city you love.

I'll take both the article and denial with a grain of salt, Gavels denied a few things over the years on behalf of the Raiders and later been shown to be wrong

Just shows how we all like to hear what we want.

I've seen you and you're GH counterparts cream your pants in the past when he has said Milford might stay.

Yep as I said before, being blind is part of supporting your team, BroncosHQ and GH are both as irrational and blind as the other

Disagree, if that article is correct what you said would be why they didn't offer $700-800k as the difference isn't that much at that high a pay, but $1mil is almost double what you guys have supposedly offered, double is a big deal to anyone especially soneone from a poor background and a mil is a magical number, he could give his parents $400k a year and still pocket the equivalent of your offer, that's huge especially since his family have shown a willingness to travel and spend time in Canberra with him.

Friends he has lots in Canberra including some close ones from Logan and at least another is going down for next season, partner will be seeing dollar signs.

Ricky Stuart doing what he does best. His ego is the overwhelming factor in everything he does. He knows that he'll look stupid if he loses his new clubs most promising young player. And what does Ricky do when he thinks he'll look stupid? Do something even stupider to overcome it. Regardless of whether the Raiders can afford $1 million or not (I think they could TBH, Dugan himself was on like $650k) they can't afford to throw that much money in to an unproven player while they have questionable players in other positions, a roster that horribly injury-prone, and a serious lack of depth. To Ricky, that doesn't matter. He wants to look like a hero, now, and securing Milford, while he looked lost to them, in his own mind would do that, regardless of the consequences.

Shows how poorly run the Canberra club is. Offering a million a year will only harm the club in the ling run. That said they've got Ricky as coach so they are pretty fucked I would say.

It's always all about RS

The Raiders could definitely afford $1m a season after losing Dugan, Ferguson, Earl etc.. I'm not so sure we could fit $600k under the cap tbh.. it would be extremely tight, from 2015 onwards I'd say we could.
