[Official] - Milford signs with Broncos

I can't think of any examples of Milford playing in the halves for Canberra outside of that game.

At least as far as 2014 is concerned.

I don't buy Barba as a half. His front on defence is shocking and a lot of his playmaking skills leave a lot to be desired.

It's adequate at fullback and I believe that's where he should stay. Give him a proper off-season, let him lean up a bit and go from there.

Mind you, if that doesn't happen, I can just as easily see one of our young halves killing it in the off-season leaving Milford to play fullback and Barba on the bench and if he doesn't take it well, left right out.

7. Hunt
6. Milford
1. Barba

works for me.

I think Milford's play making skills continually get under sold. Yes he would be more of a running 5/8, but he can put runners into holes and he can kick

his organising of a team to get into a position to put on the play is what he does struggle with.

He's still young and his NRL experience is based on playing with a side that is largely organised by Campese and when it's not, it's a team that is in complete disarray.

Hunt and Milford would complement each other very well.

And that IMO is the very definition of a five eight, organising the team. As you say, he's only young and pretty inexperienced in NRL but with a year or two partnered in the halves with Hunt I reckon he will slowly get there.

Under 20's Origin?

Which is especially why I stated "for Canberra".

U/20s Origin is a completely different environment where his biggest crime was overcompensating for his team's lack of quality around the park.

Bennett did the same with Hodges. Honestly I can't blame him if he were dropped. They aren't winning or even making finals and they need to find players for 2015 and beyond. Milford isn't one of them so why bother?

The real question here is how quickly is White on the phone to Furner offering them some money to release him to us ASAP.

Mate come on dont be stupid, its White were talking about of course hell make the call,

To put your mind at ease, Ive just spoken to his PA and hes already got the call penciled in for July the 1st

It doesn't matter whether White makes the call at all ... Furner and Stuart are so pissed off about him signing with us, that there is absolutely no way they will let him come early.

You guys are forgetting one thing. We only need Milford to be better than Hoffman at 5/8th.

Reasonable point, we're sitting comfortably in the top 8 and that's WITH Hoffman, and also with Hodges out the first month. If we can field a fully fit side next year and Milford is anything like we expect he's going to be in the halves, I'm expecting us in the top 4 heading into origin period.

We currently have a running halfback (who's not as dynamic) who struggles to put our runners into holes and who can't kick too well (though he is improving, to his full credit) - absolutely an improvement. Should give Hunt more time to shine as well. I'm excited...
I wouldn't say hunt struggles. His lb assists this season are comparable to the other good half backs in the comp. and like you said he's constantly improving :)

You aren't wrong but I think traditionally the half back carries most the responsibility for organising the team unless you have a dominate 5/8. Which he won't need to be when partnered with hunt. Of course he will need to organise to some degree but I think he'll be instructed to play to what's in front of him while Hunt calls most the shots. If Barba slims down a bit and gets his speed back, having both of them in an attacking play will cause huge headaches next season. Both of these players will attract a bunch of defenders and the defence won't know who to target. We should essentially have 4 kicking options next year (macca, milf, barbs, and Hunt doin most the work). I'm excited.

And from what I am reading in the other thread, Ash Taylor, Duncan P and Kodi N might fit that bill as well

The raiders are a shambles. Lockyer would struggle to shine with the lack of space in attack that they provide.

The whole team as a mess if you ask me

The halves aren't up to standard; McCrone is just crap and Campo is past his best and injury prone. Cornish has potential and I would give him McCrone's spot and use Campo as a mentor

Backline is inconsistent and fails to fire to often. Croker, Wighton and Milford are the only consistent players in the backline

Forwards struggle to make ground and lay the platform and are inconsistent as well. Fensom is the only permanent forward that always puts in a consistent effort.

Noddy’s Weekend Wash Up NRL round 15:

Canberra Raiders moving on from Anthony Milford

Brett Kimmorley FOX SPORTS June 22, 2014 7:47PM 0

Anthony Milford may start to be phased out of the Raiders’ line-up over the rest of the season.

ANTHONY Milford could be without regular football for the rest of the season as the Raiders plan for the future.

Milford’s benching on Friday night, allowed young gun Brenko Lee to display his talents and that could be a recurring theme for the rest of the season.

BULLDOGS 22 d RAIDERS 14

It was a 20-year premiership reunion for the Raiders on Friday night, so it was an emotional game for the players to be involved in. There were a lot of former greats down there and Ricky Stuart was one of those former greats. I thought they started with a lot of enthusiasm....
Canberra were able to blood Brenko Lee on the wing, which I thought was a good move. He’s a star of the future and reminds me a little bit of Blake Ferguson. He’s got a bit of X-factor and will turn into something special. Ricky didn’t play Milford, which raises some questions and I suppose Ricky’s trying to plan for the future now — it’s about looking forward at who’s going to be in his side next year. And Brenko Lee showed enough signs to suggest he’ll be a big part of the future.

This from the Fox site. You'd think Kimmorley would have an idea of what's going on in Stuarts mind.

FFS, Ricky, let him go if you're just gonna waste him. Spiteful little prick.

If that's seriously the plan White should offer cash and get him next week. Raiders being Raiders though, they'd probably deny the offer out of spite.

Love this win-win situation for us.

Keep playing your best player who will join us next year.
Drop your best player and end up with the spoon.

Ricky loves spoons.

Ricky is fighting hard to take the Spoon out of the hands of the Sharks.

Anyone expect anything less from the pettiest man in league?
