[Official] - Milford signs with Broncos

Ive brought this up a few times and generally get shot down for it. The broncos structure, as it is, will stifle Milford and ruin his career. We need to change our gameplay to accomodate him, and at the same time it should bring out the best in barba. Will we do it? Thats the question !

No.

Not with the current coaching structure at least

I don't think it's possible to coach the talent out of our spine next year. I've been on the sack griffin band wagon too but from all accounts the players like him.

Barba and Hunt are both victims of his decision to play Hoffman at 5/8 (and as a result the rest of the team suffers). Throw milf in and it frees both these superstars up to focus on their own jobs. Not to mention the space it will create for other players just by demanding the defences attention .

The only way they won't play well is if they lose the desire to win for hook.

...or if he bulks them all up to the point they lose their spee - oh god, we're screwed.

Guys, again... slippery slope here!

This thread is about Milford, not Griffin. Keep it in check and don't make me lock the thread.

If Ben Hunt can carve up with the structure we have this year why will it ruin the career of Anthony Milford?? If the forwards win the battle next season and give Milford/Hunt/Barba enough space they will light it up.

I want Milford in the #1 next year. Shift Barba to 5/8th or chuck him on the wing, but jesus h christ Milford needs to be number 1.

wow this brett guy really doesnt like me lol. disagreeing with every post of mine.

Care to elaborate why you disagree? It's clear as day that fullback is his best position, and hes got age, speed, and playmaking skills on his side when compared to Barba.

exactly why he will be played as a 5/8

Playmaking from fullback is vastly different to playmaking in the halves. at FB you can come in to the line/behind the line where and when you want. sticking him in the front line is one way to completely stifle him.

that is true ... but out of Barba and Milford, they will play the better playmaker (i.e Milford) at 5/8 and the other (i.e. Barba) at fullback

I think a lot of people are choosing to believe that Barba isn't playing his natural game because Griffin has instructed him not to, when there is every possibility Griffin has done that with the intention of covering up weaknesses in Barba's fullback game due to that injury. What if he doesn't come right over the pre season?

While I agree that's what they'll do, I'd rather have the best attacking weapon we'll have in his best position. Taking away from him just to keep someone who's not as good as him in his preferred position is stupid.

We did the same thing with Locky and that turned out very well for us ...

IMO, Milford has all the talent and ability to turn himself into one of the best 5/8's in the world. all it will take is time and patience (including on our part). and a bit of mentoring and guidance from the great one couldn't hurt.

I think Lockyer is a bit of an exception to the rule. He always played like an extra 5/8th anyway, often being first receiver while playing fullback.

Milford could more easily be one of the best fullbacks of all time if we let him keep playing there. I hate this stupid fascination with turning everyone into a 5/8th. Inglis, Hoffman, Hayne, Milford.....just let them play where they're best.

Agreed. And Hayne is a good example too, he's clearly the best ball playing fullback, and even he didn't convert to 5/8th well when he played there.

Only Lockyer has.

The way Barba is playing, I definitely Milford to be our fullback. I want him finishing plays and running into gaps, not being forced to organise, create and play away from his strengths.

Barba to 5/8th, Milford to 1. Tonight proved it. I've been a staunch defender of Barba all year, but no more. He was atrocious and lazy.

I think Barba looks lost due to our lack off second faze play. I'd put him 5/8 next week and tell him just go out and have fun and throw the ball around. Our seasons over now so I'd get him use to playing 6 next year. Get Kennedy back in first grade and give him a descent go until end of year to see what his got.

Milford does this quite a bit as well.

I can understand the argument of leave him play where he is because currently that appears to be his best position. IMO we haven't yet seen the full package of Milford's abilities watching him play at fullback.

He could be much more than just a dynamic hole runner with a fantastic step.

He can read a game.....he's creative.....his passing game is already night and day compared to last year. He also has a very under rated kicking game.

I know Barba is playing like shit....tbh, I don't know what we're going to do with him. At this point I'd be more comfortable with Milford at 5/8 ...Hoffman fullback and piss Barba off.
