It's not about common sense or me hating the Storm. I think he's a cheat who took part in a salary cap rort and I don't want us funding his retirement package. True? Maybe, maybe not, I'm not going to argue why I think that to be the case because it has been done to death many times on this forum before.

I'd rather we spent the money on DCE or anyone else, than a 32 year old Smith on a 3 or 4 year deal. I'd honestly rather we nab Jake Friend if DCE won't come either.

I said from the first moment the rumors surfaced of Smith coming to the Broncos that I don't want him, it's nothing new.

Tbh I'm not sure to make of it, originally I wasn't too keen on the idea, thought it was excessive for a player nearing the end of his career, but then I got to thinking he could be a valuable experienced playmaker to have among the ranks to help take the pressure off the younger ones coming through and to help develop their game. Slightly disappointed but not getting carried away, it's not the end of the world, it does however mean McCullough will need to get his act into gear, cannot afford to have him there if he continues to be inconsistent.

Smith's value is more about what he can teach our young spine players and his possible future value as an assistant.

Whether he took advantage of the Storm rort is irrelevant for the Broncos, as long as there is added value to his recruitment, and I don't think anyone can say that the best brain currently on the rugby league paddocks is not a very valuable commodity!

So sort of like sacking our best halves, when we had no others? Macca is a rubbish player who has had ample opportunity to prove himself and hasn't after 100+ games the whole proving yourself mantra is out the window as far as I'm concerned.

DCE isn't an option at the moment. Indeed he's not an option until 2016 (if at all).

Jake Friend isn't an option at the moment either.

So the hot tip from some people on here is that we should ignore a proven high performing player on the basis that we are going to chase people who aren't available.

If you don't like Smith because of something that was never even alleged against him, then you're nuts.

If you think we should ignore him to chance players who aren't available then you're completely nuts.

Then I'm nuts, because I don't want him at the Broncos. Even if we didn't get those players, I'd still rather not have him. And on the money we were reportedly offering 1-1.5 million per year, you're nuts if you think we can't add a really great player to the team, or sign 2 very good players with that money. Or keep guys like Milford around, if he turns out to be a superstar.

Macca isn't shit, he's just really, REALLY mediocre. Great defence combined with terrible attack (bad decision making and bad service). Not good enough to win a premiership with at the moment, and despite what people like to think, hooker is a key position.
