PLAYER Payne Haas

just looked through the side the only ones i know are izaia perese, koroibete, quade cooper and vunivalu.
three that were in league at some point and old man quade lol
Yeah. No superstars that make you want to watch a match of Rugby in Australia. A couple of good young players but that's it.

It's not that desperate. Haas could get 1.3-1.4 in league at the right club. Pretty much every club will be offering him 1.1-1.2m.
Best prop in the game in league for that salary. What is he in Union? What position does he play? Does he have the same influence? How long does it take to get him to be elite in Rugby? 2 three years? Paying almost 5 mill to develop him and then hoping he resigns? I think it's desperate based on those factors

Not saying I'd be pleased with him going but if it's a code switch, good luck to him. Better than him playing against us.

The world will keep on turning.
I hope we can hang on to Haas but, just in case, I reckon tonight we have a gold-plated opportunity to show the world and the likes of Fittler and Johns (immortal my ass) that our season's not over because we lost 3 players to injury and suspension and yes, the world will keep on turning ... get out there and make some rabbit stew!!

They don't care if he never wins a line out or pushes in a scrum. He will repay that money with back page stories and debate and job done.

Same as AFL didn't care if Hunt and Folou couldn't kick a ball- they paid for it with attention and stories.

This isn't a development plan it's a media plan.

I don't think it would take him long considering he has a background in Union. He was selected for the Australian schoolboys team in 2016 and by all reports was a star in the sport.

One thing about Haas is that he has the drive and determination to succeed so Union's investment in him would pay off.

This is what I find incredibly stupid. They tried this tactic, as did the afl in western Sydney and seq. It backfired tremendously for both, particularly rugby.
Union was FLYING before they signed sailor and co. After they signed sailor and co all rugby media was about "ex nrl player" and no one got to know the other rugby players. It also created tension in their development/private school system which they depend heavily upon for talent and support as the perception was that the money was just going to the "leagiues".

Afl thought it would bring all the Islander population in Western Sydney and seq with folau and hunt lol..

Not sure what they think will be different this time. It's definitely a short term view...

We really do need to keep Haas, he really will go down as one of the greatest props to play our game. Open that bloody cheque book and throw it at him with a 10 year contract.

To be honest, if it wasn't for all this Haas talk going to Union, I wouldn't have even known Union still existed in Australia. I thought it died years ago in this country.

Haas is the definition of a rugby number 8, would absolutely kill it there.

Eventually they'd have to do something with that attention though. We might watch his first game, maybe his 2nd but after that, if the Wallabies don't step up and do something they lose the attention and embarrass themselves like usual. Then they're paying millions for a dud and still losing.

I have seen that a few times quoted this week and I don't think it's true. I watched him playing Meninga for the Coast in 2016, Played for Keebra, and NSW U18 Origin off the bench and made the Australian School boy league team that played two "Tests" against England in July he came off the bench in both games.

Doueihi is the only League player I recognise from the Rugby school boys tour.

It's not so that you watch that player from that point on. Even if he's dogshit, their hope is you catch a glimpse of something that interests you, and you keep watching the code. I get that this is Union though, I can understand (but not agree) with people getting intrigued by AFL, but Union is so boring that people will change the channel pretty quick.

Is Rugby even on TV? I honestly have no idea. I haven't heard a single thing about the Super Rugby comp for years.

I keep seeing this but not sure where it's come from. He was at Keebra and signed with us in 2016. He played Australian Schoolboys rugby league in 2016. I'm not saying he didn't at all, just that I doubt he was doing much rugby stuff whilst at Keebra Park when literally every single player who made the Australian Schoolboys Rugby Union team in 2016 went to College's and Grammar schools, except one. Did Payne change his name from Laurence Tominiko? Adam Doueihi did get selected though.

Also I just found a list of players named for Australian Schoolboys rugby from 2010-2019 and he wasn't selected in any of them. So now I am even more curious.

Should have just copy/pasted this

Wouldn't have a clue either. The only time I've seen Rugby on TV in the last 10 years would be if I've been out at a bar/tavern.

It’s actually on channel 9 on Saturday nights. Because it’s not like there’s any other sports channel 9 broadcasts that people would rather watch….

Do you guys think this Payne Haas to rugby drama is going to derail our season again? If it’s causing any drama whatsoever we should be looking elsewhere to cover for him sooner rather than later
