PLAYER Payne Haas

Suaalii would have struggled to field a million dollar offer though IMO. He's probably on 800k at the Roosters and for the forseeable future, I dont' see his market value climbing much higher. Nothing I've seen from him tells me he's anything other than a solid centre so his earning potential is capped.

Could be wrong though and maybe a desperate club like the Tigers offered him 1M but I don't think so.
I've seen a half dozen Roosters games over the last year - admittedly don't watch them very much as I don't particularly like them. Suaalii does a few good things a game and makes bad defensive errors / good for a penalty or two... it always seems like he kind of balances himself out.

I figure it's just NSW Media having another circle jerk over the a reasonably talented footballer.

the kid is 19 and outplays most guys 7 years his senior. Very good player with heaps of improvement in him

I agree, his defence on the weekend was pretty atrocious. I wouldn't have any problems with that as he still young and inexperienced but as everyone hypes him up so much it creates pressure on him to perform

Agreed and I think he is going through a bit of a triple whammy at the moment of second year syndrome, the pressure of having been smashed in the media for his decision to go to rugby and the fact the Roosters just aren't playing well and the microscope is being heavily applied.

Sounds like Cobbo.

It would be pretty funny that if we lost Haas to rugby it was because we couldn't compete financially. Great thing we are the highest rating footy code and we cashed in on that at a time when all the power was in our court as a code.

I mean...imagine if a certain moron in charge who constantly has a dig at union was responsible for not being able to compete with rugby due to a terrible broadcasting rights deal.

To be fair the ARU, although a joke of an organisation that is in charge of a dying code that is hemorrhaging money and popularity in Aus, only needs to pay like 3-4 marquee players.

It'd be like if the NRL said "we want Dan Carter" and threw 10 mil per year at him which they could probably do if they really wanted to. Obviously clubs would melt down about that, something the ARU don't need to worry about because super rugby is a meme of a competition that ought to be dead and buried already.

ARU will get this cash injection over the next few years and piss it all away with no growth of the game locally and will be back barely turning a profit not long after

Yeah, Aus Rugby has massive problems and they are clearly trying to buy some quality players and marketing by signing league players. They key problem with Union is it has no TV product and never has. Unfortunately they can cherry pick some quality players at the top end but the fact that there are none in their system without ex league players is a much bigger problem. I don't care if Haas goes. I think most league to Union converts have been worse for Union than league. Haas is a strange choice football wise. I think there are better picks for the money if they actually want to win a world cup. Halves and backs is where league players would help. Forwards jobs are different and need much more of a background in Union, particularly scrums. What position would Haas play? If I was a elite Aussie player in union I would be shitty that these guys are getting huge money for a risk that may not pay off over guys who have gone through the union pathway.

That's because nobody outside diehard fans ever see a game. If it was on commercial tv like AFL or League I might give it a look every now and then but It hasn't been on free to air properly in 30 years. There doesn't seem to be a superstar Australian rugby has produced in this time either

Big brain rugby union pay walling their sport that no one is watching.

Yawnion signs Haas for 1.6 million and I'm certainly not upset about it. I am laughing my ass off at the desperation.
