If he doesn't stay, I think the Roosters make sense as the biggest threat. 2025 they'll have Sua'ali'i and JWH off their books, so I think the money saved between them should cover it Hass.

Payne:

“I am in a dialogue with the ‘Broncs’ at the moment.
“Like I say I am still in dialogue with Broncs and we will figure it out.

Seriously, who says that.

He said that to sound smart & failed.

If family is going to drive his decision, taking an extra 200-300k in Sydney would be pointless.

With tax and Sydney being a lot more expensive, the money won't go as far as it would in Brisbane.

I having a feel we should be worried about Redcliffe's inevitable offer. They'd still have plenty of cash for someone big and he'd be a massive target.

Steve Renouf says:

“You can’t deny a player wanting to sniff out the market, and Payne has every right to do that, or his management has,” Renouf said to foxsports.com.au.

“I just think what we saw happen with Payne and his new management last season, they need to be careful of upsetting supporters.

“When he went through this last time, he got booed by his own home crowd. I was at that game and I thought it was poor… it was just like ‘come on’. I was disappointed at my home crowd.

“He’s a young boy who has just carried us through the Covid period and our bad times, our best player, and they were booing him.

“It just shows what a negotiation can do to a brand of a player.

“Payne has settled back in to some really good footy and I don’t think it will upset (the Broncos). They just need to get it sorted as soon as possible.”

Renouf on Payne being an invaluable member of the team

“Without a doubt mate, without a doubt he is worth it,” Renouf said.

“I don’t know why front rowers have not been paid as much as a halfback or a five-eighth, or the spine.

“He is an integral part to this Brisbane club, without a doubt… just look at what he does in a game, how much he gives and his effectiveness, metres gained.

“Intimidation factor, there is no one in the game like him to be honest and to think he has been consistently like that now for what, three or four years?

“You know what, he loves the place. There’s a big factor in that too… it’s his management who are searching for the money, even though it is on his behalf.

“He might still say yes (to negotiating with rivals), but he loves the club. He needs a settled club, he has a lot of stuff going on outside of footy, family matters and that.

“The club has always been there for him, I don’t know if he wants to pick up the pieces and start at a new club.

“You also want to be at a club that is winning, and guess what? Brisbane are winning at the moment. I expect him to stay, but I hope I don’t put the mockers on it.”

Renouf on whether these ongoing negotiation will hurt out premiership chances and on potential Storm raid

“No, because one thing I do know for sure is that they are Payne’s mates, no matter what they will be talking to the boys,” Renouf said.

“I’d be doing the same things, so from a playing group, no. It is just what the outfacing side of that looks like to the public and to our fans, that’s my concern.

“But to the playing group, they won’t worry too much.

“Talk about Melbourne, I think they are a bit further away than they think they are. They have three good front rowers down there.

“Does he really want to go down there and be in a quartet? I don’t think so. I’m still confident he will re-sign here, I just think he’d be happy with what they will give him.

“He’s settled, that’s a big thing. With everything that has gone on with his life, he’s settled.”

What is Renouf on about storm having 3 good front rowers and does he really want to be a quartet? It's not like we don't have good front rowers here either?

Maybe he was having a subtle dig at their cap talking about Welch, Tui and NAS being on good money.

Wish we had more ex-players like Renouf in the media. Just a total gentleman and champ on and off the field.

We're at the point now where, as a club and as supporters, as this circus drags on and on (as it has for almost 2 years now), you have to begin to ask the question "How much will Haas departure actually affect the teams performances?". This will be the 2nd year out of 3 that Haas will finish first in BroncosHQ's player of the year votes, and you could argue the only reason that won't be 3 from 3 is because of the emotional response to his stunt mid season last year costing him votes. So he is and has been by our own measurements the best player at the club for 3 straight years, and probably the favorite for this seasons Dally M. Does the fact he's a front rower really blunt his value THAT much?

I dunno man, it's such a tough call. I would be resting our star players (including Haas) over the next few rounds just to get a gauge on how the team would perform without him in the side. We know we can win without Reyno, we know we can win without Walsh, but what about Payne?

So about 1.25/5 year deal.

I don't think we should match 1.25 but we should match the length for job security.
1.25 in Sydney is less than 1.1 here, in the hand. Dude is crazy if he leaves. But, if he's going to, he should make that call now and not string the club along when we could be planning for his replacement. Especially when there's the likes of Tino and Fifi off contract NOW. If he stalls only to still knock us back, I'll be doubly pissed.

This is from the fuckstick manager…
IF you were that concerned, you wouldn’t let this become a circus…
