I don't know what to think about this one, but I guess I wouldn't mind having him as an impact player of the bench, although we're not short of quality 2nd rowers.
The idea behind it is probably to cover for a more permanent move from Gillett / Te'o to a centre position... [icon_shru
We are in a great place with backrowers at the moment so I don't think we need to go after him. I would rather keep faith in young blokes like Lui. In saying that though Mason has been outstanding for Nth QLD and has had a great attitude on field from what I have seen. I hope Mason finishes his career up North. I was right in saying the move to Townsville would do a lot for him and I actually quite like Mason now. He hasn't been there for long though so lets see if he can keep it up. He said he was like to finish his career up there a week or so ago, so lets see how it goes.
There are certain players who, if you are in a position to, you go after regardless of whether you "need" them or not. Players like Folau, Inglis, Lockyer etc, who are guaranteed to be better than those you have in your team, no matter who they are.
Mason is not one of those players, and we don't need any more mobile props/second rowers.
We especially don't need his influence around all the young guys. Just because he appears to be behaving himself this year, it doesn't wipe out the many previous years of club complaints.
Why would we want him now when we didnt want him 6months ago, the reasons we didnt want him then still havent changed. Put your house on it being absolute bs!
Can I ask why people hate Mason. What has he done wrong to get people offside... has glassed anyone, bashed his Missus, drink driving, raped a groupie..... interesting to know what he done to piss people off?
I don't hate Mason in the sense that I think he's a terrible guy. He's always played the part of the villain well because he's cocky and stands out, similar to Dell in his Broncos days.
It's just that trouble, in terms of club disharmony, seems to follow him around. I don't want the risk of that at the Broncos, especially when we really seem to be gelling as a team at the moment.
Thats what Im trying to work out... what club disharmony... the Bulldogs where trouble with or without him, and even with the Coffs harbour rape case he wasn't one of the 'players involved'. The Roosters also with or without him had Fitler to get them in the paper. The guys s far as I can tell is out spoken, tell it how it is from his point of view and doesn't hide behind the fact hes a footballer in the spotlight. How many times have we all thought gee I wish Locky would just tell it how it is instead of being politically NRL correct.
I don't think we NEED to sign Mason but I also don't think we NEED Tronc and when it comes down to it, I'd rather have Mason than Tronc as IMO, Mason offers much better value on the field. I also think a lot of Mason's "behaviour issues" were wildly blown out of proportion.
