We also have a lot of upgrades to do, I don't think we'll have as much coin spare as a lot of people think we will...
Which is why it's so funny with the Roosters. We haven't won a premiership since 2006 and not made the 8 in 3 years yet our players need upgrades, but the Roosters win multiple premierships, some of which were back to back, minor premierships and regular top 4 finishes yet they always replace like for like or even for better. I think he was the best combination of natural physique and proffesssionsl attitude i have seen for the broncos (although carrigan and haas are pretty good modern alternatives.
The thing is he did it for a career across two codes and then carried that proffessionalism into coaching. Its something our younger players can look to to as a mentor and an example of whats on offer with the right attitude.
As a player the guy won and achieved just about everything he set out to. Absolute focus and passion. He put in work on and off the field. I'd kill for a team of Brad Thorns. If Patty and Payne can replicate his success in league, we would be unstoppable.

Honestly, it is actually crazy how good he was and on top of it all he was mostly low key off the field AND he played til he was 40!!

I have to concede, two of those critical tries included very forward passes. Patty's offload to Walsh was SBW-like, it went more forward than it did sideways. Staggs' over-the-top, had it gone against us, I'd be blowing up about.
Well, the ref was right there to see Patty's pass and it came out of hands backwards. I would have said the pass from Walsh to Staggs was forward and Staggs' back over ARey was ok because it landed behind ARey.
All these lucky calls remind me of how the Panthers started kicking on back in the Broncos blunder years.

Apologies if it has already been said in the thread but I thought it was very interesting when they said on the call that our for and against was +100 with Paix on the field and over -100 with Billy on the field. If this is true then that is crazy and shows Paix needs to be playing more minutes. It's clear to see the service is a lot better with him at 9.
I thought paix service was pretty ordinary at times. Several times passing behind the player or while they were flat footed. Definitely not his best game apart from the try

Missed the game last night, happy to wake up to a win!
Was never In doubt!

Will watch the game after work today!
Me too.
Although….
After seeing the score then reading this thread about such a poor showing in the first half, alleged scoring off forward passes and dropped balls, have to admit, went to bed a tad disappointed.

good to see Paix finally bringing some of what made him good in q cup into first grade.

He is a real asset when he plays a little more selfishly. If I had to guess I would say having Reynolds and such great forwards in the team probably made him go inside his shell but now he has Billy and Mozer putting his career in doubt, he will be forced to demonstrate his strengths.

For this season? Lol this can’t be true. We’ve only conceded 46 points so even if every try against us was when Billy was on and every try we scored was when Paix was on, there is not enough points either for or against for this to be even close to true.

I’m not certain exactly when Billy came back on last night but we must have scored about 20+ with him on the field. If anything I’d say the differential would be in Billy’s favour.

After Walsh scored the last try a dragons player landed on the same leg Walsh grabbed at. I don't know if it was cramps, looks more serious.

He could barely walk on it in back play when the team were heading back up field to get in position while Reynolds took the conversion, but he walked it off and he was running after that so seems like it's all good.

Just a knock.

That stat is for all games Paix has played, so even the ones he played before we got Walters.

No offence mate but that is a very simplistic view there, way too many variables to declare more minutes = profit.

It is more than likely this stat comes from the energy he has playing smaller minutes and the fact he is coming on in the softened up period. I love Paix and am not taking anything away from him. This rotation is working perfectly atm and I wouldn’t change anything.

Ezra Mam gets a knock to the knee, it is heavily discussed it his knee, he has his knee heavily strapped. In the post match interview Mal goes “you’ve picked up an ankle injury there Ezra”.

Only the best and brightest on the Fox panel.

Exactly. I think paix will make this the last contract billy walters has with us (atleast in 1st grade), but right now they are filling the roles as asked.
If we were reading pure stats, it was when walters was on that this game was broke open, but that is just how it worked out.
The reality is we were talking about walters that way when he was coming on for turpin, and turpin when he came on for macca.
That bench role can make forwards in general look superior to the blokes they replace because you are up against tired bodies.

The whole “coach’s son” or Paix at #9 is a moot discussion atm.
We have a guy who 85% of BHQ want gone and believe he’s only there because his Daddy is the coach. The other is a former teenage sensation who can’t play 80mins.
Guess what? Who cares?! I’ve been vocal on our #9 forever too. Currently, we’re number 1 on the ladder and the game plan is working. Who cares who has the better stats or better passes. Winning takes care of everything.

I agree. I have never understood the hate that Billy gets and firmly believe if his last name wasn’t Walters he wouldn’t cop a majority of it, but whatever people have agendas and always will.

There are very few 80 minute hookers so if you don’t have one of those the setup we have with Billy and Paix is perfect.
