POST GAME POST GAME [Round 6, 2023] Broncos vs Raiders

That was the moment of the second half there. Brisbane rolling down-field, Walsh puts the bomb up and nobody is really steaming down. If I was doing a video session I'd spend 20 minutes on that alone.

The other 40 minutes would be Haas working a play with Carrigan on play 4 when Patty is cooked and has no sense of direction. Just so many issues could be addressed on those two key plays alone.
It was back to back poor kick chases to start the second half.

The first being Kris untouched for 40m after an excellent yardage set... next time we get down there for a kick Reyno puts a pretty stock standard kick to the right and we let them get out beyond the 30-40m on the return. Right side kick chase has been our bread and butter all year and when we were trying to get them into a grind we just let them off the hook.

There were just so many points in the game where we lacked attention to detail and it cost us.

The second tackle of the game Hudson Young is getting driven backwards, but he throws a desperation offload out the back. The defensive line has already retreated back thinking they've won the tackle and Canberra put together a 20-30m run, get the quick ptb and we're under continual pressure until they score their first try.

We basically conceded 5mins worth of pressure because of one offload in a tackle that we were winning.

1910 has told us the focus in defence has been restricting offloads. After conceding under 5 for the first 3 rounds we've gone 11, 13 and 12 the next 3 weeks... standards have been slipping

Patty needs to find that balance of being the ball playing lock and bending the line, he's capable of both but he hasn't found that balance yet.
The loss of Flegler was pretty massive to our go forward this game... I feel like Patty has to reduce his output a little bit to ensure he can play the minutes required.

Since the dragons game where Haas played out the first half, our rotation has been about Patty playing out the first half with Haas getting a break at ~30mins... so he has to go into the game knowing he's got to play out the first 40mins as a minimum.

He's also a huge communicator on the field... so the longer he can stay out on the field the better it will be for the team as a whole. Haas and him need a break during the game but finding them that break whilst also making sure there isn't a drop in performance is the tricky task that Kevvie is trying to figure out.

The communication across the field probably needs to improve as a whole to lessen the impact of when Patty goes off.

If you watch the storm all their forwards are talking and across the same sort of things that Patty calls out during his mic'd up sessions... but are Haas and Flegler doing a similar amount of talking OR are they only able to focus on their own game and bashing it up the middle?

Haas is bringing an offload to his game... I hope he is communicating with Walsh and Paix to spot up defenders and make sure they're going with him to know he's looking for the offloads.

Asked if Broncos players lost focus over the hype surrounding a possible premiership campaign this season, Patty Carrigan said:

“Maybe a little.

“Anyone in the NRL can make you pay if you aren’t at your best and that’s what happened to us.

“I just don’t think we earned the right (against the Raiders).

“There is plenty of skill and flair in our team, but if you try too hard with that and it doesn’t come off, it can affect you.

“Previously, our game has been based on effort areas and attitude.

“We know we have the ability to score points, but we let ourselves down (in the effort areas).

“Across the board, we were down, particularly in the midfield.

“It was one of those games where we would try and score on play one. The Raiders are a quality team and they were up, so I don’t want to take anything away from them, but it was a pretty poor performance from us.”

Oh! Forgot the fact that we now share our home with The 🤬. So, no way we can expect Suncorp to be in pristine condition come Magic Round huh! ☹️
Nope... no chance... because NSWRL... "we should be having a game at Suncorp every weekend" 🙄🙄🙄

We're the second game in magic round... so hopefully our players will be safe... couple NSWRL golden boys could be in trouble by Sunday though

He’s about the 10th player I’ve heard mention the issue of trying to score off every set over the last few weeks yet no changes

So being a good player makes it ok for him to carry on like a dickhead?
Didn't say that, I said he was a shithead and a sook, he was also a good player,
thanks for your response to my post Nerd

Didn`t deserve to win .
Got bullied , then tried to many trick shots . Wanted to go around and not through . Lessons to be learned or its back to the end of last year again.

Not similar at all .
One the guy who got KO`d was the tackler . The other the guy who got his head split open was the ball carrier . Kneeing a guy in the head who is on the ground is very different to catching a swinging arm in the head from a ball runner .

Can you honestly say Kris was reckless or careless ? Ball runners can do what he did multiple times and never a word if no one is injured .
Marty charged at Rapana on the ground and kneed him in the head . Always gonna be a penalty IMO . Reckless and careless .
I admitted we played like utter crap.

But even so it was 3 tries a piece.

The difference was their goal kicking and the leg up they got all night from the refs.

Footage is now available that shows that Rapana's 2nd try was short of the line and never crossed it, for example. The list goes on and on.

I put a lot of that on Ezra and Reece .
But , like I have said before Reynolds is the Captn and game manager / assistant coach .

I actually don’t put much of it on Ezra. He has been playing ultra conservative the last 3 games to the point where he almost exclusively goes himself rather then risking a pass.

The forwards are passing too much and over doing offloads rather than rolling their sleeves up and building a foundation. Ultimately though, it’s Reynolds and Walsh. You can almost forgive Walsh but as a captain and game manger, Reynolds has the power to direct the forwards and calm the backs.

It falls on Adam and Kev, and if Patty considers himself the next in line he has a role in it too.

I’ve played in teams like this, everyone agrees the issue is that we aren’t sticking to the basics and are overdoing the low percentage plays, except we all think we are the exception because we’re the game winner so everyone else should stick the basics and play it safe while I get to chance my arm due to my ability. .

I think results like the raiders rolling us Saturday or the Phins rolling the cows and Warriors rolling the Sharks last week will become a common sight this year.

The gap between basically every team (apart from the tigers, who i give a chance against the eels next up) has really closed. The competition seems alot closer this year so these "upsests" probably shouldn't come as a huge suprise. Well at least until the season gets on a bit and sides really rise from the pack.

Regarding our loss to the Raiders, you knew that performance was coming at some stage. For me a positive was when we did go back to our core game plan and what we do best, we actually looked good. Just have to hope we learn from that.

I was listening on the radio at work in between patients and every time I come in the room it sounded like the Broncos were on the offensive. Can't believe they lost after that lol.
What job has patients and is open 7.30 - 9.30 on a Saturday night?
