POST GAME POST GAME [Round 8, 2023] Broncos vs Eels

What a farce that deep down we all knew would happen.

Hopgoods ticks all the boxes, feet off ground, dragging back onto legs and his is the only one not charged.

I think the whole thing is a joke with this tackle, but for his to be the only one thats gets off....

We just got done being told Oates broken jaw couldn't be factored into the suspension and what do you know, look what happens the other way.
Hopgood was charged grade 1, Mam & Haas grade 2....go figure...

I dont think anyone in the league right now is happy with the judiciary system...needs a serious overhaul...

You're innocent beofre being proven guilty in this society -thats not how the judiciary is set up...

The game is going to shit, Haas didn't deserve a suspension these ***** are just looking for a finger to point at for any injury that occurs.

Haas still had his feet on the ground, unfortunately he gets a 2 game suspension if he fights it and loses and it's not worth it, the MRC will just say duty of care bs and ignore all logic.

the NRL have today re-posted a video (i'm pretty sure from the pre-season) Annesley explaining the hip drop tackle.

not one of charged tackles (and that includes Hopgood) is remotely similar to what Annesley says a hip drop tackle actually is

Yet to see a proper 80 minute performance from this group.

Dont know yet if thats a positive or not, but 7-1 tells me it is.

If we can win 50% of these upcoming fixtures we will almost certainly be a semi final team this year.

But we have had a nice draw, few injuries and suspensions. Its been a confluence of events that have helped our record.

But eventually, these things catch up to you.

So next few weeks will tell us a lot about this playing group...

There was a judiciary hearing for the BRL last year, I think for the first hip drop charge.

A huge unit, bigger than Payne Haas (probably 15-20kg heavier if you can imagine it) and fast, charged through a couple of players. A back row forward came at him from side on, hit him but by the time he hit him, the ball carrier was almost through the tackle. He got swung around by the guy's momentum, but held on which caused him to come down on his legs, causing a broken leg.

The judiciary let him off and found that it was an accident, primarily brought about by the guy's momentum.
And the point I was trying to make (and not very well), is that I do not believe that those momentum type tackles are a hip drop, nor deserving of any penalty, let alone suspension. If you have a scenario where the attacker has one or more tacklers on them, and another players goes around the hips and drops their body to bring them down and lands on the legs of the attacker, that is a hip drop that needs to be stamped out.

This highlights the absolute stupidity and incompetence of the NRL. Try to quell this by realising something that enforces how wrong it is.

To me, the Hopgood one was the worst as he made the decision to deliberately lift legs off the ground. Ma’am had no control as was a good 20-30kg lighter than the person he was tackling and the haas one wasn’t even remotely a hipdrop

To make matters even more confusing and irritating, this was Haas and Ezra first charge for hip drop offences, Hopgood however, this is number 2 😂

Not worth losing Haas for two games, don't see logic working in any argument over this nonsense.
Im inclined to think this too.
NRL are trying to stamp this tackle out and have been very vocal about it.
No way do they give a pass to the bloke that fractured a guys hip in what they deem the exact tackle they are trying to eradicate.

Its bullshit, but give both Haas and Maam a rest for a week and have them back for the Manly game.
Might do them good to have a break after the furious start they have had to open the season.

Is there any public record as to how all these charges are determined? Otherwise the judiciary are basically like a mini-Russia where the dictators can choose any half baked rules and have zero accountability at all?!?
If it’s good enough for both the RBA governor and Putin to be hauled up on charges, I think we as the life blood of NRL need to have the same thing happen!
