Roberts found guilty

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

Are we fighting it?? Bennett's reaction on Friday night says that we will, he didn't think he would even be charged

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

Didn't Brown get off because they found there wasn't enough force to cause injury? That should be our defence.

sounds like a winner right here.

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

How the eff does a stomp to the jatz crackers get off for not enough force, when Roberts didn't even have a back-swing on his kick! Id rather a tap on my back then a kick to the dick any day of the week.

It was my turn to grab the beers when this happened - but a few of the lads said they took Wimpkins off and it looked like he was making out he had a sore back from it?

Maybe that's why they charged him with contrary conduct. Perhaps the amount of force won't be a consideration.

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

Stomping a bloke in the ballsack is heaps worse than what Roberts did but you hit the nail on the head re the lucky dip... Brown gets off, Roberts will get 4 weeks

Just hope Roberts is judged on what he did.
Not because He is in a club that got the rub of the green
one friday night against a club we took out of the finals.
Which the whole media blew up about.
Just don't want this to be 'We won't favour the Broncos..see?'

This is exactly what will happen. There's no way we get a favour from the judiciary after the ridiculous carry-on by all and sundry after Friday night. The fact he's only going to get a week is good under the circumstances.

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

He has exactly 0% chance of getting off. It was a kick, it was deliberate, it wasn't malicious but it was intended to make the guy move/get a move on/draw attention to how the ruck is obstructed, most of us would do it/do something similar in a sporting environment but he'll get a week, and probably rightfully so you can't kick people on the field...

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

Maybe if he was at another club he'd get off.

Not at the Broncos though, especially after all the outcry about the refereeing on Friday night.

To be fair Hodges got off at the judiciary last year for spear tackling Guerra. Roberts wont beat this charge. He kicked Simpkins.

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

If Jack Wighton can get off that shoulder charge I believe anything is possible

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

Of coarse Roberts did a stupid thing.
But I worry about the media's heavy influence in the game now.
Years ago we would watch a game and moan and groan when the other club got away with stuff.
Now with facebook etc, grievances gain traction, until commentators get on the bandwagon.
Maybe I'm talking out of my hat here ?

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

It's just the evolution of the game and the evolution of social media. There's no conspiracy theory, a snowball gains traction and size when the size of it's path is much larger...

Definitely a snowball effect. If the penalty try was never (correctly, but contentiously) given, Gus Gould doesn't spend the next 75 minutes singling out every single that goes against the Titans, while ignoring the rest. If Gus shuts up, the 99% of casual fans with no clue carry on as though nothing ever happened. Then the rest of the media don't jump on the social media outrage bandwagon in order to fill a few Facebook posts and score a few link clicks.

People are a sheep. If you asked most of the people on Facebook to actually name the decisions that were wrong, they'd struggle to name more than one that was actually incorrect.

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

he will get off, absolutely

precedent was set when brown got off as already mentioned and we will take that as lead.

im not saying its right or wrong.

nrl need to get their house in order.

The lack of force argument is our only hope, and there is actually a precedent that's been set, and it's not Nathan Brown.

Hayne got off because although he admitted to head butting Slater, he didn't have any intent to injure him. Use that Jimmy, and you are home free.

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

It was the kick equivalent of Tate's smoosh on Bird.

Yes....exactly that.

I still think he was trying to make room & play the ball at the same time. He's a bit of an unco.....which made it look a whole lot worse than it actually was.

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

Bottom line he did strike a player with his boot while looking at him and if it were a titan player who did it to jimmy, we would want a suspension. I hope for a miracle but in the hope of consistency one day in the judiciary system, he should cop a week.

Re: Roberts chances at the judiciary?

Whats the difference between what roberts did and all the tripping that have not been charged. A trip must still be classified as a kick
