Apparently Ponga is going to stay at the Knights, though this is not official.
Amazing.. three years ago I would’ve given you any price you wanted on Ponga staying in Newcastle any longer than his contract of the time stipulated.. I thought he was headed for big things in RL with a bigger market team and was praying that team would be the broncos..

Fast forward to 2022, I can’t believe where he’s at as a footballer and that he’s actually content to be anchored down in Newcastle for the long term..

His career needs the challenge and extra responsibility of the Dolphins as much as the Dolphins need him imo.. He’d be crazy not leave his comfort zone and get everything he can out of Wayne Bennett’s final years in the game

This comes with a TRIGGER WARNING but is interesting nonetheless.. below podcast featuring Ben Walker includes discussion around Sam Walker’s botched negotiations with the Broncos.. there’s even an admission from Ben that in a perfect world, Sam would rather be living in Ipswich and playing for the Broncos 🤦‍♂️😫😵‍💫

I remember when I broke that story I got told I’m ridiculous and it would never happen.

I mean he's playing 6 for the roosters these days, and the Roosters did help develop Hodges for us.

Nobody would say no to him coming back, but I'd have some reservations. Not about Walker himself, but about our structures being able to support him. The media thought once Croft would be our saviour, then tore him to shreds when he didn't live up to their hype.

Robinson is a very good coach and the Roosters have very good structures in place. Sean O'Sullivan looked like a world beater covering for Cleary at Penrith, and Melbourne's are that good they can put fullbacks anywhere in the spine.

Croft also didn’t fit Storm’s structures and last I heard wasn’t setting the world on fire in Super League either…

Maybe it isn’t our structures that are Croft’s problems…

In Croft's case, it wasn't his professionalism, but there was most likely something else to it. Melbourne letting him go and replacing him with Hughes should of been the Red flag there.

Wasn’t questioning his professionalism, just his ability, or lack there of.

To me he has always looked like a solid reggies halfback, that some have mistaken (for a while) as a genuine NRL half…

Hopefully he makes a good fist of it in Super League.

The media is pushing the "Munster to the Broncos is an option " agenda , no doubt to raise his salary.
Even though I think that Munster is an arrogant prick and comes across as a real dick, the Broncos really need to go in full guns blazing to try and sign him.
If we want to once again be NRL heavy weights we need him.
Unload whoever we need to to make this happen...( bar Reynolds)
Munster would be the perfect foil for Reynolds and we would be dangerous on both sides of the field. Like I said, his attitude is way below perfect but holy shit he can play football .
Get it done DD and Ikin.!!!

I'd love to sign him but I'd worry about his off field issues.
I'm perfectly happy for the Broncos to be used as a bargaining chip to drive his price up as well though. The more somebody else pays for him, the less they'll have to throw at other players.

This will be a test of DD and Ikins no dickheads policy.
It's alright to let lesser players go who fall into that category but it could be a different story for marquee players like munster.
Having said that I don't think we are seriously chasing him. If he does come up here it will likely be to the Dolphins.

I don't know where the money is coming from, the reason he looks to be leaving Melbourne is because they can't offer him more then 800k meaning we would need to pay a mil atleast, he is worth it I would say but who is leaving to pay for it?

I'm calling bullshit on this one.

Also been said he and his partner are keen to return to QLD.

We are apparently under cap at the moment and will have 5% extra cap next season. Will likely lose Herbie, will possibly move on Oates, likely Turpin, Kennedy and Arthurs.

We have 22 players who’s current contracts will have expired by 2024 (the year Munster is available). Including guys like Flegler, Cobbo, Hetherington, Gamble, Niu.

If we want to pay Cam over a mil a year we definitely could.

Everything I heard is based on him being offered a reduced contract because they had to pump up Hughes and Grants contracts, ever since that happened he has been linked away, I would say money is the biggest reason.

Plus we would have to compete with Redcliffe who since losing Ponga will be looking for a marquee scalp, I just don't see this as a realistic option, sure we can offload a huge amount of players but they will also need to be replaced with someone and there is minimum wages for first graders, we would need to loose players like Haas to pay for it realistically.
