Round 1 Discussion

That's awful, it was such a weak attempt anyway, any word on what Te'o got?

To be honest, I could barely tell the difference between the two. I thought Gus was just cracking a fat to get a rise out of Rabs like he usually does.

However, there really is a fine line that makes all the difference.

Basically, SBW had his arm tucked in and hit George Burgess high, thus 3 week suspension.

Te'o didn't tuck his arm in and made fair contact, hence no charge.

I think it's going to be difficult to determine live and referees will struggle for consistency but at least there's still room for heavy contact in the game.

As soon as you hit a bloke high you are a goner. SBW collected Burgess on the chin.

I thought they closed that loophole by locking the captains once the round starts? In this case it'll work because Inglis will be locked in, but if he had a shocker I think you'd be stuck with him because you can't change the (c) to a better player.

I swear I heard it had changed somehow but couldn't find any info saying it had.

It seriously just needs to be, did it touch the head? No? Play on. Did it hit the head, penalty and possible suspension. They've just complicated it so much.

Didn't take me very long into the year for a referee or an official to piss me off.

If SBW gets suspended for 3 weeks for that and it wasn't even brutal in any way in the first place the players may as well get dressed in skirts and ballet shoes. Some of the new laws in the game (no shoulder charge or biff) just diminish the spectacle, the fans want to see a hard hitting game at it's best not a game of touch or soccer.

I'm not a fan of the new skirt rules or MRC, but this is a blatant high tackle, where the shoulder clearly makes contact with the head. Just because he didn't brake the player's jaw of cheekbone, doesn't mean it's not a punishable charge. I think grade 2 is about right in this case!

I have honestly always hated fighting on the footy field and it worries me that people actually want to see it, especially around Origin time when people post Facebook status' and Tweets saying they can't wait for a fight. When I want to watch a fight I'll watch some MMA.

I am hoping SBW will plead guilty.

He will be unavailable for the Broncos game if he does.

Said no Broncos fan ever.

I haven't seen anyone on here comment about the crowd last night but I've seen others comment about it on other sites and I want to comment to.

The crowd at last nights game was very dissapointing. For a season opener between the two foundation clubs who are held in high regard throughout the game a crowd of just over 27,000 wwith limited atmosphere was a letdown.

The venue choice wasnt right as Homebush isn't anywhere near the Sydney CBD so the game was on the other side of town for local Souths and Roosters fans, the SFS is next to the city, far more accessible and the crowd is closer to the action. Not every Sydney game has to be at the Olympic stadium, the attendance for the Sunday game will be low again for the same reason, play the game at Kograh.

It was a Souths home game though, moving it to the Roosters home venue doesn't benefit them one iota.

I was surprised with the crowd. I was expecting 35,000, I knew we were never getting the 50,000.

Thursday and Monday night football is the real issue. It just stops a lot of people going because of work the next day. I got home at 11.45pm and was up at 4am for work. Oh well a lot of people missed a great game as watching on TV is not the same as being there.
