Round 1 Discussion

One game down and already any hopes I had of a perfect tipping year are done and dusted.

The Rabbitohs were absolutely relentless tonight. Nothing overly fancy about their play, they just ran hard, tackled well and when they needed a try, they had a bloke name GI waiting in the wings who when given half a sniff was good enough to score. He walks away with 3 this evening and I wouldn't be surprised if that turns out to be the most scored this weekend by a single player.

Their forward pack looks to have stepped up another gear. The starting Burgess pair were difficult to contain, especially as the game wore on, McQueen did well to get on the outside of the defence on a couple of occasions and I thought Te'o really went up another gear tonight, a good effort from him. However, the biggest difference was Sutton at lock. Any worry I had over his game was dismissed very quickly and apart from one stint on the bench, it look like he hadn't missed a beat and his presence gave Souths another dimension in their attack.

Didn't think much of Reynolds again in such a tight game, backs were a little spotty but you've got to hand it to the Rabbitohs, they put forward a very good effort tonight and they're going to be tough to beat this season.

As for the Chooks, I didn't think they played terribly, I just think they gave away too many stupid penalties and like last year eventually it took it's toll on the club. They can take a fair bit out of that game but they're going to have to tighten their game up a bit more and show some smarts with the football. I thought they played into the Rabbitohs hands a bit tonight by playing one off the ruck stuff, had they used Aubusson, SBW, Cordner and the like a little bit more effectively and varied their kicking game, they may have been half a chance but I thought they were pretty pedestrian.

Still, based on what I've seen, that was a high quality game for Round 1 and I suspect both teams will be there in the business end.

GI an easy pick for MotM. Basically every bit as good as his performance from the corresponding game last year.

100% for tipping so far :P And 259 Supercoach points. Didn't do too bad.

The way the commentators were going on about the Roosters before kickoff, you would have thought they would win by 40+ points.

Wish I captained GI

I'm loopholing him with Nikorima and taking whatever the AE hit is. Can't throw away nearly 150 points. Also be good to gauge how Cozza goes at prop for SC without sweating on the captaincy

Tipping is just so impossible

The Rabbitohs were far to good tonight they hit hard, ran hard and executed a lot better than a sloppy Roosters outfit. The score does show the difference between the two quite significantly. Souths basically controlled the majority of the game and got on a roll through their forwards and the backs led by GI had the tendency to finish them off. Inglis was my MOM as he basically destroyed the Roosters defence making 176 meters, 3 line breaks and scoring a hatrick of tries but I thought he dropped the ball on the last though.

I think he got a hand on it before it hit the ground.

Interesting that NRL contacted 9 to show a replay of a tackle on Lowe. Good thing they did, because it clearly shows SBW shoulder charging Lowe.

How does that work? The loop holing with nikorima thing?

With Greg as VC, you put the C on a non-starter so your VC becomes captain. Choose your player you subbed out for Niko (in this case S. Johnson) as your 4th reserve and then hope your remaining non-reserve players all score 30-50 and whichever is lowest will become your AE player to fill in for Nikorima's non-score. The amount of extra points Inglis got this week should more than balance out any bad scores. It's risky, but a decent option when Parker doesn't play Friday nights (which is rare)

I thought they closed that loophole by locking the captains once the round starts? In this case it'll work because Inglis will be locked in, but if he had a shocker I think you'd be stuck with him because you can't change the (c) to a better player.

SBW charges with a grade 2 shoulder charge. Facing 3-4 weeks.
