POST GAME Round 13 - Warriors vs Broncos

From last season Broncos have three change in this season.
1- Justin hodges to James Roberts. We are missing Justin dummyhalf rans and Penalty big time.
2- Mitchell does to Maguire.
3- Kevin Walter our half's and attacking coach.
In my point of view we are missing Justin hodges badly. His dummy half rans were best in nrl. He also get penalty for us when we needed. He was good leader too. If Broncos want to win premiership this year they need Kevin Walter big time. I hope Kevin join Broncos after origin.

lynx000 and Bull Shark......... the perennial doom and gloomers

or maybe we've just seen enough rugby league to know when a team isn't playing well enough to get it done.

sorry to hurt your feelings, bra

not at all braaaaa, i'm just a realist. Look do i want these games...............Of course but know its not the end of the world but i will admit if we are zero wins come the back up game after origin 3 i will be a little concerned.

I would say more a realistic assessment of our form rather than pie in the sky optimism. But whatever floats your boat. If you think we are looking as though we are powering to the grand final and winning it on our current form, kudos to you. But I would say that given we have lost the last 4/5 weighs the debate somewhat towards our view.

Yeah honestly, Thaidai is on his last legs. He was One of the first prototype edge forwards but he's just not up to it anymore.

I've just seen so many teams stringing wins together over the years and making a good go at the finals. Like i said if this is happening in 5-6-7 rounds time then i will be worried. At the moment i'm willing to trust in wayne and the processes that he has in place.

A tough night at the office.

Full credit to the Warriors. They were up for this one and just rolled through the Broncos relatively easily. They received a lot of fortune through out but that tends to go both ways. Unfortunately Brisbane are starting to feel the pinch.

It wasn't the Broncos day. The move to shift McGuire to dummy half didn't pan out and I doubt we'll see it again. Not only did it force Josh into a foreign role, it weakened the front row position. Ofahengaue is a good prospect but he was lost out there and struggled with the responsibility.

Maranta also had his first shocker under Wayne. He didn't have the best game last week either, but it was nothing compared to what we saw yesterday. I haven't felt worse for a player in a long time when he stepped over the sideline. The cruel bounce for Johnson was bad enough, that was just a telltale sign of where his head was at and he never switched back on.

On the plus side, the bench was quite good. Pangai Jr, Wallace, Nikorima and Ese'ese all provided impact and I expect bigger and better things. It's just unfortunate that in the case of Pangai Jr, Ese'ese, Arrow and Su'A they're all so relatively inexperienced. It would have been nice to blood them earlier, but with the team in such good form to start the year and a decent run with injuries it was difficult to find them a spot. Particularly in the case of Pangai Jr who only joined the club right as the pre-season was wrapping up. I like what I've seen and expect they'll be better come August and September.

Not the result and the team is in a rough spot. The next few weeks will define the rest of the season. I haven't given up on them and believe they have the tools to find the answer. They just have to suck it up and make it happen, somehow.

If Maranta had caught that ball just a split second later, it would have been a scrum feed to the Broncos from where Johnson kicked it.

The guy should have had more awareness. He is experienced enough.

I hope he never makes the Broncos side again, to be honest.

Couldn't believe Hunt kicking on the third tackle after the side had defended the line for so many sets.

Then to fall for the show and go from Johnson...

Hopefully he gets it right soon.

A realistic assessment based on losing a few games during the SOO period...?

Jeez, that doesn't usually happen to Brisbane, does it?

....oh wait.

No-one is denying the team isn't playing well at the moment, but on the back of a few 1 point losses, a disjointed origin period and a half who is desperately lacking in confidence, we're far from being season write-offs. We just have to ride it out and man for man work on improving each individuals own performance. At full strength and after the SOO series, if we still are playing like we did today...I'll admit defeat.

Until then, we have too much class in the side to start throwing in the towel just yet.

I think the club will finish the regular season strongly as well.

The concern is the club plays Canberra, Canterbury and Melbourne. 3 tough season defining games in a row, if they can't show up against these teams then it's going to be tough.

TPJ does seem to offer the most impact off the bench. I agree it would have been nice to blood him earlier, but in the long run its better he had to wait and earn his way into the team. If he keeps this up through the Origin period he should earn a spot on the bench.

I thought Milf had a decent game considering the circumstances... Wouldn't have taken much for a couple more close calls to come off for him and he would have been close to one of the best on ground. Impressive considering the rest of the game.

We've got to get Roberts more good ball... I would love to see how he played in Reeds spot, defensively Milf and Roberts next to one another may not be ideal though. But Roberts defence has been much improved this year, and the less said about Reeds this year the better anyway.

This is the first year of Thaiday's 3 year contract isn't it? I pray he takes up a hell of a lot less cap space then we think he does... We signed him too long, and I really hope it doesn't cost us any of the young forwards we have coming through. But it would have been a mistake not to resign him. Even with all these young forwards coming through, our chances of winning a premiership this year, or next, take a hit without him. We need some experience coming off the bench. The young guys were mostly great tonight, but its a long season. Offa has been off for a little while after a good start to the season, tonight was his worst game, the others will go through similar periods.

No one is saying that either, but as usual there is no middle ground. Of course the team isn't powering to the grand final to win on current form, we are in the middle of the origin period where provide the most players, coming up against teams that are virtually unaffected (in the Warriors case not affected at all, at home, after a bye).

There are reasons for current form and the side has a long time to get it right. But if you want to keep having your sky is falling tantrums so you are your mate can call yourself 'realists' then go for it. You have as much right to do that as the rest of us do to try and actually be realistic and see things for what they are.

I love Joffa but wonder if him being dropped for Pangai Jr next round might just be the rocket he needs. We don't even need to make wholesale changes. Maranta obviously thankfully goes for Oates. Reed should be dropped for Kahu into Centre and Seve/Anderson/Opacic on to the wing. I'd personally go with Seve if he is available but if not, at least Anderson is a decent goal kicker and we could sure use one!

TPJ to rest Offa is a great idea. Thank **** Oats is back! I do feel for Maranta, hope he's gone for good though. He'd probably go well in the SL. Then theres Reed... FFS Wayne, how long do we have to wait! Kahu is a perfect fit but I'm pretty sure Su'a plays center too...? He would give us some much needed starch coming out of our own end and in the middle. Sounds a little crazy I know, but **** we need something to change. I see Roberts in 3 with Oats & Su'a in 4 with Kahu.
What yous recon?

The obvious is Marranta and Reed were dismal. I actually felt sorry for Marranta because once his confidence was shot it was only going to get worse, and it did. Reed is just too damn slow. It is getting borderline comical now and it's just time to move him on.

The not so obvious is just how disappointing that Roberts is both in defense and attack. In attack he just doesn't demand the ball and make it a point to find a way to receive it in better positions, that said I think he should be on the left side. His defense yesterday was just woeful, I mean really shocking as if to say I don't really want to be out here. If that doesn't improve quickly than you really need to move him on.

Now for me the shocking thing about the Broncos is how the hell can we have absolute riches of forwards coming through the ranks and not one young hooker that can join the ranks? Not one? Was this a massive oversight, are all our feeder clubs playing with g uys on the field... no number 9? The reason that Wayne doesn't play Kodi big minutes is he is too small, likely more a half, and can't absorb the position for big minutes. Maybe we really do have to think about trying to pick up Segurya for the remainder of the season.
