Oates had his customary error, but even with less ball than the Sharks for the first 50-60 minutes, we still had pretty good field position and I credit so much of that to Oates' runs on the 1st or 2nd. He gets a massive run-up, makes a heap of post-contact metres and almost always gets a quick play the ball. It's not enough to warrant his big contract of course, but he may be worth holding on to with a more modest contract. It also sounded like even though he was frustrated with playing reserve grade, he still worked hard and did everything asked of him. Now that he has been recalled, I wonder if his attacking confidence returns and we start to see his try-scoring ability again.
