Round 17 - Storm vs. Broncos - Post Match Discussion

So you are saying with the spine we have we would be a top 4 team or at least a very good side as long as they are more confident? There is a huge difference between having confidence and having confidence AND talent. Norman who appears not to care and ambles around almost half asleep. Wallace and Prince who are both completely out of their depth at this point in their careers, neither of them has been first grade standard for at least 12 months and McCullough who has not improved in 2-3 years and has the slowest dummy half service in the competition. Their are dramatic problems with the roster and they start and end with Griffin and Gee who have passed on players, missed out on players, let players go and rewarded a group of underperforming, over paid players with first grade spots over the last 2 seasons when realistically many of them would not get a look in at a decent side.

Like I said in another thread, it's pretty easy to identify what's wrong.

2. Hoffman
3. Reed
4. Hodges
5. Kahu

8. Thaiday
10. Hannant
11. Glenn
12. Gillett
13. Parker

15. McGuire

Assuming all our players are fit next week, this is what we'd see. That's just excellent IMO. Most clubs would be jealous of that.

So what's wrong with our side?
Obviously the spine. The rest of the players actually make them look better than they really are in attack.
Obviously the defence. We have some genuinely ordinary defenders in Thaiday, Gillett, Hodges etc. But there's something really bad with it overall. Need a specialist coach to work with them and fix the problems.
Obviously the game plan. Well, with geniuses like Griffin and Kearney at the helm there's no much we can do right now.

Origin players will be unavailable next game.

Next week already? Well, let's say two or three weeks from now then.

Gillet missed 6 tackles according to NRL.com! SIX!

JYY is playing in reserve grades!

Do u watch our games!!!???
Most of those missed tackles are the ones when he rushes out of the line to pressure the ball carrier or kicker, besides the whole team including guys like Parker are missing too many tackles!

Not really, a few of them were ones that led directly to Melbourne tries. He's just awful when someone gets on his outside.

Who's outside of him again?
He didn't miss tackles in Origin like that.

Gillett defends in the middle of the field for QLD. Hopefully we see him there again for the Broncos soon.

Enthusiasm is one thing but racking up the highest missed tackle count in the ENTIRE league is grounds for some serious defensive review with Gillett.

If running out of line is an issue, then fix it.

Having him next to Prince and Hodges is a nightmare.

Gillett/Prince/Hodges is just a defensive nightmare. Defending in the middle of the field should be much easier for Gillett - less width to cover so it's harder to get on his outside. He can rush out with less consequences too. He can definitely hit pretty hard if someone is running straight at him. But he's horrendous defending out wide, and his highest missed tackles just prove it. We had Wallace defending on the right last year, he made it a little better.

Well it was mainly Thaiday, Wallace & Hodges but Gillett and Te'o would pop up every now and then.

He does seem to go better on the left defensively too... Maybe move him there when Thaiday comes back to the backrow.

8. McGuire 9. Granville 10. Hannant 11. Gillett 12. Thaiday 13. Parker, we would be better than we currently are by making that change. Glenn and McCullough deserve to go back to Q Cup I am sick of Griffin rewarding his under 20's buddies week after week.

9. + 14 = Granville + Baptise.

Leave 6 and 7 empty, it will be better that way.
