POST GAME Round 18 - Bulldogs vs Broncos

Parcell. You can just see what's going to happen. Some crap club who can't even spell development will offer him a squillion to start a la Granville and who could blame him to take it?

I take your point but at the end of the day they'd be crazy not too. Some posters on here think Granville wasting his time on the bench for us playing second fiddle to McCullough is a perfectly acceptable way to spend a career. I just looked at Granville last year and thought "****, what a waste." I was glad he signed with the Cowboys. He's a starting hooker and that's all there is to it.

There's a similar thing going on in the Taylor thread. Posters are dirty on the management for allowing him to find a better opportunity. What's the poor kid to do? Barring injury, our long term spine is going to be Boyd, Milford, Hunt and McCullough. Talented youngsters can't be expected to waste their potential playing second fiddle to those guys. Whether we think they're first grade material or not is beside the point. If a rival club does and offers them a good deal. They should take it.

Life's too short.

Back on topic, good win by the team. We were up against it but dug deep and did enough to win. Some of our execution is absolutely diabolical but we're backing up poor decisions with strong tackling so I can't complain much.

I was laughing at your description. To claim that was a "bombed try" is ludicrous

Did extremely well to even get a hand on it......unlucky not to score.

Not at all.

I wasn't bagging out Maranta. In fact, I was giving him a wrap for his mental toughness. As I said, the wing position is built on confidence and Maranta came up with a few plays that would have tested it. Yet when the team needed him to, he put it behind him and came up with the big plays when he needed to.

I also thought his decision making in-goal was really good. Clearly learned a thing or two after Round 8 where he misjudged a couple of kicks.

Personally, I think it's ludicrous to get bent out of shape over some phrasing while missing the point altogether.

Yeah, in those conditions, keep control of that ball would have been one of the toughest things to do. I think Hunt's kick was just a bit too long too, Maranta would have scored otherwise IMO.

I agree but I hope we're a chance of hanging onto Parcell at least for a little bit longer. For Granville it was now or never. He's 26. Paul Green was his coach at Wynnum too.

I wouldn't want to have to chose between Parcell, Nikorima (and McCullough).

Oates probably would have got there, given he's around about 2km tall and runs at mach 8. Other than that I wouldn't be betting lefty on any other winger scoring the Maranta missed try.

I'm not denying the effort from Maranta or the difficulty of the play.

Just that he put himself in position to score, did all the hard work and bobbled it at a crucial moment.

It would have got to some wingers, especially those who are in and out of first grade but he got on with business.

And that's my point.

That pass!

Impressed with that. Props to Thaiday, thought we did really well considering his role on Wednesday. Same as Parker, that bastard never runs out of gas.

Didn't like the amount of times we failed to get to the kick. Almost seems like they've been told to run it on the last within the 10.

Ben Hunt's kicking game is so inconsistent, it was probably the safest option in closing out the game. He did kicked it afterwards, and it gave them a 20 metre restart.

It isn't a bad tactic. Kick would be better but it is more unreliable. Start a defensive set within the opponents 10 or 20 and no extra tackle. No need to worry about the chase, broken defensive line, passing. It allows you to set your line, slows the play and limits field position. Pretty sensible.

Even if you knock it on and recollect it you only concede 6 tackles from the 10, right?

Unless they pick it up and play advantage, in which case first tackle is a 0 tackle. So yeah, as long as you recollect and they have to pack the scrum, it's just the 6.

So all in all, pretty savvy IMO. The Broncs do need to improve their kicking game though. I was enthused early in the game when they turned the doggies and had a few tries at the 40-20 as well.
