POST GAME Round 18 - Bulldogs vs Broncos

Ben Hunt's kicking game is so inconsistent, it was probably the safest option in closing out the game. He did kicked it afterwards, and it gave them a 20 metre restart.

It's a good point, but a bit of a bandaid solution to a serious problem. Would be interesting to see how it's being addressed behind closed doors.

Two points that will come in handy down the stretch.

Not too much to add. Blair had his finest outing in a Bronco jersey. He has come a fair way from where he pretty much was shying away from a hit up at the start of the year.

Not sure if Vidot came off hurt or not. What I do know is despite his prop like ability to drag a few defenders, Oates in my mind just offers more on both sides of the ball. In a game where they were borderline flat offensively, I think Oates needs more minutes as he is one of the few players on the club who really offers an X-factor.

Play of the game also was Thaiday's try saver.

I was really impressed with Blair. He looks to me like he's taking his game to another level. Almost everything he does looks like he has thought it through, has a purpose rather than just barging hit ups for a few metres. He makes decisions, pass or not, run this way or another. I think Bennett is transforming him into a first class forward. I hope he continues.

For mine, Oates is the permanent strike weapon we need, on the wing for the moment. Great instincts which I'm not sure Vidot has.

Thaiday certainly has his mojo back. Our pack is starting to look and play like they are something special. Just need Milford and Hunt to keep gelling. I really like the look of this Broncos under Bennett.

Close to our best performance IMO. Difficult back up after Origin emotion, against a NSW media touted premiership contender and we put them away niceley.

We've answered every test this year (bar Souths in an abomination of a game in sub-tropical conditions).

Parker was enourmous, again. Pity he's a lock (and won't go near the points tally), otherwise he should go close to Dally M in terms of controbution week in, week out. He's leading a forward pack that is just choking the life out of other packs.

Wallace and Dodds need to lift though. Dodds improved over his long stint but started way too slow. Wallace is just a magnet for penalties in the ruck. He has to work on that.

Also, Bennett's gameplan and bench rotation so frigging good. McCullough to backrow for a spell is a masterstroke. Parcell just looks like he is coming on nicely with a bit of first grade confidence.

Vidot proved again he is a must now that McGuire is out.

And Kahu, where did this season come from? And the bow on top is Boyd, in defence, in attack, he's just organising us brilliantly and starting to click with Hunt and Milford on the second man play.

Milford... so much class in a couple of half chances. He just tries things most won't... would have loved if he iced the game with that half break (where he just got ankle tapped by Browne).

I thought Blair was better with his workrate. I swear that that one sublime offload to Milford that he's been threatening all year will come in a major semi or grand final situation that'll we'll "Alan Cann" forever.

How ridiculous were some of parkers' s offloads though! ? Juet a flick up from the ground basically. . Really helps us moving the ball around without barging forwards. It's the way the game is going and is so exciting to watch

Parker's offloads will be valuable with no McGuire. Like an extra tackle to make up for it.

Not at all, I suggested some other club will poach him.

They're already circling mate, he's off contract in November.

Great write up in RLW this week about him.

Shane Walker on Matt to Bennett this time last year. "Don't worry, if you sign him he will be your captain one day."

He's starting to show it now, I remember writing in October last year he is smart and professional. He made his goal to win fitness tests at the Broncos and he did that- smashed the 2.5km record and the 1.8km record with a 10 minute rest in between.

4.88 seconds for 40m- that's the same as the backs.

While I wouldn't like to see McCullough injured or suspended, part of me would like to see us in a position to see how a combo of Parcell and Nikorima would go.

I felt the same way at the start of the season, but McCullough has been better this year, his defence is a big part of the reason we're holding teams up the middle, if he can work on his kicks out of dummy half not being shitty, he'll be a top 5ish hooker.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bagging McCullough, infact I agree with you, I just like to see different combinations, having said that at this time of the season it's best to keep the combination that is working together as much as possible, I'd probably keep the current combo.

I've been very excited about Parcell for a while. I'm sure I've raved about him heaps this season but he has transitioned to first grade flawlessly.

Sometimes I wish this league was a 25 player game so we could fit all our talent in.

Top 5-ish?.....I don't think so. There's a lot more missing than just a kick out of dummy half

and having just a "defensive" hooker is selling ourselves short.

We deserve and should aspire for better.

Smith, Farrah, Ennis, Friend, Luke, Peats, Ballin, Granville....all offer more than A.Mc does out of dummy half.

+ Parcell

IMO.

Smith, Farrah, Luke, Friend, Segeyaro would probably be my top 5 hookers atm Ennis, Peats, McCullough, Rein, Granville are all on the cusp.

We're in a good spot though, if McCullough doesn't give us what we need over the next couple of seasons we slowly usher him out for Parcell, assuming he sticks around.

It's been a strange season for dummy halves. I agree with Unbreakable's Top 5, but would argue that the likes of Farah, Luke and Segeyaro wouldn't make it on form.

Also wouldn't be surprised to see Granville pick up the Dally M Hooker award. His form has been sublime.
