Round 2 - Broncos vs Cowboys - Post Match Discussion

I'm still not convinced that Tate didn't knock that bomb on first, but you could hardly blame Beale for dropping that. The alternative is to let it bounce which is rubbish. As a coach I'd be asking why he had no protection.

Thaiday created the hole for Bowens first try by rushing out of the line, and my pet hate, packing a scrum with players out of position. A centre in the second row and your lock at second row. So Gillett packs as lock and breaks blind the same side as the half WTF? that is where we lost the game right there.

On another note, does anyone know why Griffin blew up so much when Norman put the grubber in goal ( last 20 min)and it went dead. ?

Interesting thought on Tate. Live it looked a bit sus but on replay you'd have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Would have been interesting to see a slow-mo replay. Then again, there's no point stewing on bad referee decisions when we came up with at least 10 bad decisions that either cost us points or gave them points.

I didn't have a problem with Beale's protection either, Thaiday raced over as fast as he could and Gillett was there - Tate just made an amazing chase.

Griffin blew up because we had the numbers out-wide and if he had of gone the long pass we would have likely scored.

Probably because of all the options available it was the worst one. Pass through the hands and we score.

Yep there's a few lameo's on here.

Griffen's comments in the post-match presser are interesting. Too many silly penalties, errors and just not prepared to work hard enough for the result. That first half was a shocker - we just handed them the initiative through stupid plays. If we'd won it would've just masked a lot of things we didn't do well.

Any idea what happened to Gillett tonight? He struggled to get anywhere near it. Will need to watch the tape before passing judgement on Parker. I thought he had a solid game but stand to be corrected.

No need to slit wrists yet - the Cows were always going to come hard and we'll need a few weeks to get our combinations going. Norman's taking the line on a bit - that will hopefully bear some fruit in the coming weeks.

The game plan, such as it was, didn't seem to include him, or Hoffman for that matter. Two huge strike players completely under-utilised. We should use Gillett like Manly use Glen Stewart - a lot, and Hoffman, why does he always hang back?

I couldn't believe they gave that first video ref decision a try... i thought there were at least 2 reasons not to give it (off side and cowboys knock on). IMHO, there should be no reason why the video ref is ever wrong, they should have 100% correct decisions... if their view is obstructed, which it wasn't in this case then it needs to go back to the on field ref.

Benefit of the doubt.

Both were a bit sus but you couldn't clearly say he was offside or Bowen knocked on picking it up.

I still think benefit of the doubt should go to the defending side or they might have to adopt a similar system as the cricket (it's up to the video ref. to change the refs. original interpretation).

I think there was more reason not to give it than give it.

All depends on which way the refs are thinking on the day i suppose :(

Surely the cowboys player that was in front of the kicker came within ten of Hoff, the ball hitting the post doesn't put him back onside or am I stupid?

Just get rid of Beale now before he ruins another season.

I'm pretty sure I saw him trying to knee the new Lockyer statue in the cheek after Friday nights game too.

Gotta be careful what you do to that statue. I chipped a tooth...

Corey Parker let in 2 tries :( Can't handle the commentators praising him the entire game. He does too much.
Corey Norman needs to learn to pass the ball.
Sam was crap.

Never at any point (ok, marginally when Teo scored) did I think we were going to win that game.

Thought Wallace, Hodges, Yow Yeh, Hannant, Hunt were the best on field. Hoffman was OK apart from that one error.

I'm a cowboys fan visiting your forum. I thought that Wallace, Yoh Yeh and Hannant were your best. Your forwards kept on making a lot of ground. I was stunned at the amount of penalties that you guys conceded. Yoh Yeh should represent Australia for a very long time.

I didn't think the cowboys got any bad refereeing calls. I thought the pass from Wallace that was ruled forward was a bad call. The ball seemed to travel forward in the air but was passed dead flat which is within the rules of the game. Your coach seemed upset with this call and I think he had every right to be.

I'm interested in getting an objective view on the cowboys best for the night. Our forum had Cooper, Tamao and Scott as our best. All forwards interestingly.

from what i recall being at the ground it looked to me that tamau was a standout. and scott.

thompson was also quite good i thought.

Yep, Tamou was excellent. He's going to be a big player for the Cowboys in the coming years, gets through a lot of work, but also makes an impact.

Scott was Scott. Absolutely ate the metres up.

Agree on Thompson as well. He was a livewire throughout, always looked threatening running at the line.

I'm surprised nothing has been said about yoh yeh coping the knees when he scored

Nothing in it, completely unintential by Bowen.

I HATED the refereeing, they were blowing niggling penalties every 2 minutes (for both teams) and the game was NOT as enjoyable as it should be. Ref's should not be noticed.
