I think the ref struggled to keep up with the frantic pace of the game. The Carrigan incident summed the entire game in a nutshell.I think a real momentum killer for us was when Tualagi (?) tweaked a hammy tackling us and the ref immediately called time off: I can’t understand why he did that, we had their d line shot to pieces and he wasn’t even badly hurt, he just grabbed his leg for a minute. He got up and played on, but all momentum was killed.
This was the moment the ref really upset me. But I’m still not blaming them for our performance.
I would need to rewatch the game - which is not ever going to happen ever thank you very much - to get into a to-and fro-over effort, but I guess I saw the live game differently. We'll have to agree to disagree. We didn't turn up mate, Reynolds puts in an incredible kick which ends up staying about a metre short of the dead ball line and the fullback was able to ruck it back into the field of play, that right there is the only thing you need to be looking at if you want to know whether or not we turned up.
The NRL needs to do something about teams being offside blatantly at scrums too.
If the loss was as simple as us "not turning up" then it puts a different shade of light on the depression we all feel today. I feel more like we were beaten, which is maybe worse. But slacking off isn't great either.
I would like to hear specifically which players you think weren't putting in. Billy, Jordan, Patty, Payne and Flegs certainly were. Everyone was sticking it to me how much Billy lifted. Which was fair. He was busting his guts.
Something not mentioned by anyone is that Reynolds was off sick this week. It was reported as "flu" but who the ***** know literally why he was off. Maybe he was struggling with fitness due to that. We will never know. He's had a few off games this season. I hope that's the last one we see for a while.
