POST GAME [Round 20, 2022] Broncos vs Wests Tigers

If you don't like it put me on ignore or skip my post either way just stop bothering me
Cheers mate. I have no problem with you I hate losing too. But we lost tonight because we took the Tigers at their odds and too lightly. We are better than that as a team and should have done and known better. Generally, when you are beaten by as much as we were tonight the refs don’t have much say. Good teams take he referring out of the equation. Tonight we were not a good team.

The single play that had me yelling out in frustration was the beautiful kick from ARey that just stayed in the in goal. The kick took literally 10 seconds to bounce around, and we STILL couldn't force the dropout.

That showed our effort was way, way off.

There could be any reason for that to happen in a game. You have obviously never played rugby league.
Yeah but it happened both sides of our defence tonight. It happened last week when the eels had a man in the bin. Somethings wrong and you don’t need to play rugby league to see it.

Even if they did, that doesn't justify a potential top 4 side losing at home to the side running last. It just doesn't.
No one is saying that though, we can be both shit and deserve to lose and the reffing can be fucking atrocious. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

I just thought the Broncos got too ahead of themselves tonight. They tried to experiment with a more expansive brand of footy, but the timing and execution was completely off at times and it just blew up in their faces. I thought Mariner looked promising on debut, but that experiment changed the Broncos shape down that left side and really took Oates out of the game who has become a real weapon for them.

The one positive is that they had patches where they identified the issue and got back to getting into the grind and swung momentum easily. However they didn't take their opportunities and just seemed out of sync attacking the line. Too often Reynolds received the ball with little support around him and it just ruined their sets, or on an attacking play they'd throw a loose pass and kill it. Both Reynolds and Mam let Tesi down twice tonight with shocking passes.

I remember one time the Broncos scored a good win under Bennett during his second stint and Thaiday came out and said 'you'll never see us play like that again'. Tonight is what happens when you try and do it and it goes horribly wrong.

As far as Carrigan, he'll miss 1-2 weeks. The injury will lead it to at least being a Grade 2 and I would not be shocked at all to see the Grade 3.

I dont think the refs cost us the game, but i do think they gave pretty much every bordeline decision to the Tigers.
Problem with that is we all knew it was going to happen, the club should have been on guard to it. Considering the attitude they turned up with tonight they obviously missed the memo.

The only good thing about tonight is there was a 15 min period where we put our foot down and the tigers could not tolerate it. Sounds like nothing but our team decided "let's pull this back", and a team with all the momentum and full of confidence we're deadset grasping on despite our errors. We do that for 80 mins and we trouble every team in the nrl....

In saying that, tonight our 2022 pipe dreams of getting close to a premiership disappeared. We won't make the top 4 now unfortunately, and we can't win it from outside there. 2023 here we come.....

Tbh, i dont think the effort from us was that big of an issue. We just didnt perform, made too many errors and no matter what we tried to do it wasnt working. If it was happening week in week out i'd be filthy, but at the moment i'm fine with cutting them a bit of slack as its not like we play that bad every week.

Except it happened multiple times in the same game…

Our defence was non-existent tonight. Our right edge has been a problem defensively for a while, the middle and left edge joined them tonight.

TMM needs to go straight back to fullback desperately ahead of next week and help sort out our structure.

I think Kevvie has been giving into his worse instincts lately with some of the selections.

It’s a slippery slope, at home against tigers, we would have had that win penciled in.

But they didn't lose, did they? Even if you take the bullshit call out of it, the Cows stayed in touch with the Tigers enough to steal it. We did not. We lost by 18.
Well, if you take the bullshit call out of it then yes, they lose.

We weren't good enough tonight and after last week, you'd think we would not have switched off. But we clearly did. Tigers played well and wanted it more, it's as simple as that. A bit of a wake up call for the boys, at least.

I understand the frustration with the Musgrove try, especially since it was ruled as a double movement on the field and you'd expect any ruck interpretation to be respected by the bunker. However that's typically how they rule double movements and as long as you don't stretch out they'll consider that readjustment momentum.

I thought Wests received some piggybacks tonight, but Hoeter got away with two knock-ons, the pass for Mam's try looked suspicious and there were a couple of moments that could have easily gone against the Broncos. The Hoeter flick back in-field was a call I was happy with, but it's the type of decision where on nights where the referee's are one-sided go against the attacking team.

I do think the stop start nature added to the frustration on the night and when you get players coming off for HIAs for perfectly legal knees to the head it sucks but that's the game.

I hope you aren't referring to Mariner.

Mariner had a perfectly solid debut. He certainly wasn't as shit as the likes of Niu and Staggs who both have had plenty of time to hit a consistent stride and haven't.
Among others, like droppping Jensen back to the bench last week, continuing to play Niu despite his obvious defensive deficiencies and a fit TMM. It’s not a slight on Mariner, I just don’t understand the timing, other than Kevvie expecting an easy win.

Amazing how efficient the bunker was tonight. I mean to watch 1 replay from 1 angle for 4 straight decisions to over call the refs on field decisions, which coincidentally benefited the team that got dudded last week is just magnificent isn't it....great work nrl...
