Round 20 - Broncos vs Storm - Pre-Match Discussion

Given Dale will now hopefully lock down centre, I'm actually hoping Reed now switches to second row full time, that is where many of us thought he'd end up anyway. He could be a massive asset for us as a ball-playing, hole running edge forward.

From memory, we have been posting we are largely a team of back rowers (and soon, full backs). So do we need Reed in that role?

What makes you think he is a ball player? Haven't there been criticisms of him here that he doesn't pass to his wingers?

Where do you play him? What happens to Glenn, Gillett, Oates, Thaiday, Parker (who is not a prop and should be lock)?

For mine, given Copley's evolution as a true strike centre which Reed is not, I am finding it hard to justify keeping Reed in the starting 17. I would rather Oates then Reed, unless we have a bench light on props which I don't like.

You forgot the Gillett to Qcup one...

Jack Reed is likely to be one of the first guys named in Bennett's team, and that will be yet another badyon lol...

100% true. Reed is the kind of player bennett LOVES. He is a lot like beau scott in that he offers basically nothing in attack, but is solid in defence. Lets remember, Bennett was the one who got Beau Scott into the centres for nsw. Anyone thinking Bennett is going to come in with a broom and clean out the rubbish is wrong. He will come in with a broom, yes. But the rubbish will not be what leaves. Reed, Stagg and Lowrie have "hard working bennett boys" written all over them.

All good questions but he has shown a decent short kicking and passing game when needed and although we don't see it as much these days, he has a deadly offload. A forward/bench rotation like this could work in my opinion:

8. McGuire
9. McCullough
10. Hannant
11. Glenn
12. Gillett
13. Parker

14. Reed
15. Thaiday
16. Kennedy
17. Oates

See how he goes on the wing again.

Unfortunately this pack still does not work. First assignment is to find someone that opposition forwards do not want to run at, an enforcer.
We could do worse than Nigel Plum for the short term

We were slagging off at Marantas finishing ability last year, there will be a meltdown on here when Reed keeps falling over his shoelaces as soon as he gets in the clear

Reed isn't on the Scott, Stagg and Lowrie tier of defense at all.

After a bit of time thinking about this game I think we are going to lose. This whole Griffin thing will be weighing on the players minds too much.

Made me think about Tonnie Carrol loved seeing him cut people in half

Sorry boys
I thought i was in the Bennett thread when i posted this not the Storm game

With all due respect to Stagg, he's not even at Lowrie's level these days, much less Scott...

Apparently there's a game on at Suncorp this Friday??

The fucking NRL on facebook just linked to the 2008 Semi Final....Time for a smoke of green.

I tried that once until I couldn't stop thinking Vidot would make a great prop and I started agreeing with AP :lalala:

NRL.com actually have us winning by 4 in their game preview.

I think Broncos could win this one.

Despite the drama a few days ago, I think the players will be fired up to try and send off Griffin as a winner. Plus, a fair few of those players will be playing for their future at the Broncos.

Storm haven't been going that crash hot, and despite their win against Canberra, they really didn't look like the slick and well oiled machine they used to be. Broncos can definitely exploit that, IF they play at their best the whole 80.

As we've all witnessed in the past, give Smith, Cronk or Slater a sniff and it's game over..

Bookies have Storm as outsiders too. My "insurance" money is great when Broncs are favourites.
