Agree but Boyd wasn’t going to catch the ball, wasn’t in position to help Oates going out, wasn’t there for a pass, not sure what he was trying to accomplish. Who was there to tackle the opposition if they caught it not Oates or Oates spills it? The whole left side has to be pulled over and the centre placed there because of defensive expertise has to control that side does he not?

Boyd was there to tackle any Bulldogs player that came down with it, or if they managed to bat it back themselves. He's not going to be able to do either if he stands flat-footed on his own goal line.

Sign a halfback, do a foreign legion level ultra tough bootcamp to toughen some resolve early pre season and a new captain (see who stands up on the camp-TPJ might be a goer) and hire a henjak style pr**k to take over tactics and reckon we are good for a premiership in 19 or 20 assuming injuries hold. Boys will be bundled out of finals in week two most likely this year but need some leadership to channel that as motivation not whinge about the ref.

To be fair with injuries and a young pack expect some inconsistency and guys look fatigued but shock horror broncos struggle with fatigue management every year and this year no origin excuse. Beyond rest need to have a review of sports psych and recovery programs we have.

Sky hasn’t fallen when we’ve have such a bad run with injuries and such promising signs with young guys standing up but there are obvious systemic problems that have been ongoing since Bennett came back (which admittedly fixed a whole lot of other worse problems) but will likely prevent a premiership and are pretty damn obvious for even crap teams to exploit let alone good ones.

It was an idiotic decision to bat the ball back inside your own 10m no matter how you look at it.

He got 2 hands to it so should've just tried to catch it and hit the deck. If he gets dragged out so be it.

You don't bat it backwards in that situation ever

Anyone that thinks that we'll make a serious run for the title are kidding themselves.

2018 has always been a rebuilding/ phasing in new players.

2018 - making up numbers

2019 - with a 7 > prem contenders

TPJ thought he was going to run over the top of Lewis. Anyone who has watched Lewis play knows that is very unlikely to happen. He's dropped every big unit that has run at him. Two teams in a row have attacked the wrong side of the bulldogs.
Any chance of getting Lewis back to his spiritual home (ie us) ??

He’s too good to play for a rabble team like the Dogs.

Where was he after he fucked that put down and the teams motivation so clearly dropped? He sure as hell wasn't laying down the law. He was too busy flapping his arms at the ref like Donald Duck.
In Donald’s defense I think he would have been a better player than Boyd last night.

Tend to agree but at least in the playoffs they won't have to play any of these weaker sides which are giving them the most trouble this year. They seem to fire up against the better teams (it's been a bizarre season). I'm not suggesting that they are a title chance but it isn't beyond the realms of possibility. They can take inspiration from the '09 Eels and the '17 Cowboys. A week 2 exit is the most likely scenario though but they need to finish Top 6 to get that far.

Couldn’t be any worst than what we have now, could it??
It could be a lot "worst". A 12-8 record is pretty damn good for a team with the youngest pack in the comp and the 16th ranked HB. Not to mention the unavailability of two rep players and the massive distractions the Lodge affair and the coaching debacle has caused. Too many fans expect perfection when their lives are anything but. I don't get that. If you want "worst", maybe just reflect back on the Henjak/Hook era. Now that is fucking worst.

10 years from now, no one will remember or care why we had a 12-8 record, all they will remember is we had a 12-8 record.

Making excuses for mediocre performances only acts to perpetuate acceptance of mediocrity.

I truly believe very few supporters expect perfection and if they do, it’s more because they love the team so much and want them to win every game rather than being naively unrealistic. But that said, some of the crap we’ve dished up in the last few years would have to make even the most objective supporter question the club.

It seems we can beat top 8 sides but not bottom 8 sides

Fortunately, as I understand it, we are only likely to meet top 8 sides in the finals :risas3:

Will we definitely make the top 8 though?

That tap on for the short drop kick summed up everything wrong with the way we played.
Lack of communication, chancey all or nothing play, and a failure defend when it went wrong.
Instead of doing the hard yards we came into the game, thinking the Bulldogs were going to lie down.
I'm not sure why the broncos fail to recognise the importance of treating our opponents with respect, but they better start learning that lesson soon or face an ordinary finals series.
We need to win 4 in a row against teams looking to do the same, bringing their A game to every match.
The way we approached that game needs to be given plenty of introspection and correction, or we'll struggle to get to week 2 of the finals.

This hurts even more now that I just remembered they didn't have their best forward.

It's going to be a loooong weekend. :BangHead:

I have to wonder why McGuire faces suspension for a hair pull, when Milford only faced a fine ...

Could it be that the NRL think McGuire is more important to our chances

Or simply that the NRL don't know the meaning of the word consistency

He had priors apparently. Probably also because you could argue Milf's wasn't unprovoked
