[Round 23, 2021] Broncos vs Warriors

The officiating today was very poor. Some of the big errors that could have had a larger impact on the outcome of the game including:

-cecchin calling a knock on before the ball was made dead, denying the broncos a try (also funny they kept calling tevita-harris, walsh even though the 6 jersey was clearly visible)
-cecchin calling a clear double movement a try (luckily even perenara could not give that one).
-nui's pass putting cobbo into space called forward.
-stopping the game for a hit on the kicker that did not warrant a penalty
-very forward pass from hiku missed in the last 5 mins (led to a repeat set for the warriors, with the next set leading to the 'try')
- THAT last "try".

I accept that referees will not be perfect and errors will be made, but when you are having numerous big clangers that can affect the outcome, it simply isn't good enough.

I’ll take all of this (minus that final ‘try’ stupidity) over six agains any day. It was a great and fun game of footy, why? Far less six agains, that rule is terrible and over used.

Tesi looked to have had the yips with the bomb catching. It's a scary thought if he can't improve on it. He just doesn't look comfortable. Even with the low stuff.

Cobbo pissed me off with kicking the ball out on the full. I hate that.

They honestly must practice it at training or the training paddock at red Hill is a little bit smaller. That's Issako, gamble and now cobbo no other team does it

I hate the catch the ball with part of your body out rule, the ball isn't going out, the only reason it "does" is because of the player touching it - should be no part of your body is to be in the field if anything, or come from outside the playing field and don't touch part of the infield before catching it.

Not just you mate. I don’t know if it is a narrative that people have focused on or if it is the fact that it looks different on TV but you see at the ground that nearly every one of the scenarios that people complain he doesn’t pass Oates is either in front of him already (which was actually witnessed late in the game where he did throw it anyway) or Oates is so close to the touch line he would be bundled out straight away.
I disagree. He always gets the ball in a position to offload even to the inside but there's never anyone following through for the late offload. Either he throws the pass ala TPJ style which would see it goe to ground or to the opposition, or he holds onto it and plays the percentages.

He'll be an elite player next year with a full preseason of combinations. Whoever wins that fullback spot needs to be very active in support. I think Niu can get there he just needs some guidance

Nah it makes sense if you think about it. Should a try still be a try of one foot goes into touch before grounding, even though the ball isn’t out? Should you be able to bat the ball back in as long as one foot is inside the field?

I have to be honest here and admit every time I post a comment on here and I get a glimpse of the ladder as the page updates, it's pretty pleasing to see the Broncos logo above the Cows. I know it's nothing really but i still stop for a second and think '$1 million bucks for Holmes?' JT moved to second row, chased Tricia Dearjohn, and Chad (1950s haircut) Townsend while letting Clifford go -they deserve to be there'. :rofl

I am exactly the same, I know it’s petty but I am a petty motherfucker and am comfortable with that.

Just doesn’t seem fair to guys like isaako who kick the ball so sweetly.
I remember back in the day the preferred tactic was to aim kick offs at the goal posts. You’d either land it deep or in rare cases hit the post and cause some chaos. That’s been replaced with kick offs deep into the corners I guess. Which makes sense but the post thing was cooler.

on the subject of kick offs ... IMO, it was good to see the height and hang time Cobbo was able to get. gives our chasers good time to get down there and trap the opposition around their 10m zone.

yeah he did make a mistake, but he's about the 3rd guy this year to make a similar mistake

You are a good sport mate but that was one heck of a fun game, really good stuff from both sides.
Yeah was a great game to watch tbh. Was always expecting a close tussle, as both teams want to finish the season on a high.
Good game boys. I'll get the broncoshq.com logo up on nzwarriors.com later tonight.

Congrats!

True, if the ref called it no-try, but I suspect it would've been called a try because of the benefit of the doubt to the attacker. Not losing a lot of sleep over this one, other than wondering why the Bunker ruled the opposite of what we saw.

We can moan about it, but the Bunker and captain's challenge is about as good as we could hope for in forensic adjudication. I can only assume what we saw rolling on TV wasn't all they saw. I guess. Puzzling one.

Or what @Morepudding said.
There's no benefit of the doubt to the attacker anymore... that's been replaced by the soft call by the ref.

Has to be clear evidence to overturn the onfield decision... or so we're told

Yep. That's why I said "two years ago." Maybe it was longer ago. I can't even remember what day it is.

In 25 ISC games, Herbie played centre once and wing 24 times. He's never shown a passing game which was why the wing was ideal and Smith had it sussed early.

He has become too rigid in the centre, his strength on the wing for Norths was his ability to adapt and change and pop up all over the place.

He played different sides and had great results. Against the Pride he came across to pass to the other centre then trots back over to his side like no big deal but it created extra men on that side, he had good vision. His second try he stays out when he has to and just waits for the Dargan pass to find him.

Against Ipswich slots in at centre on the left and shrugs off guys and scores. Goes back to the right wing.

He started 2019 on the left and then Smith moved him round 9 against Tweed back to the right. Then back to the left and got four tries against the Pride- finals back to the right. It was an even split by the end of the year with 10 tries on each side.

I made the Tate comparison in 2019, that is still what I think is his best role, on the wing move around and do more dummy half work because he is very strong and fast.

He looks like he is playing a straight jacket at the moment. Wing frees him up. He's just content to make his 10 hit ups and 150m. He's got more than that.
