Round 23 - Bulldogs vs. Broncos - Build Up Thread

yeah but if you only watch the first half of highlights you see him make 3 try saving tackles.

the mistakes.. well it was his nrl debut. plenty of better players have done the same thing. he's had two and a half years since then.

i dont know why capewell would be a better option, a guy who's had plenty of time at FB in nrl and still unproven.

now - could we get through one whole game without a serious fkn injury? lets have a full 80 minutes without forced positional changes ffs.

Put aside the crappy music and the at times crappy video, and this shows Norman's fullback debut quite well. Can he repeat it? That's the question. It was notable that the Cowboys comeback came after Norman made a bad error though.

Those first 50 minutes were absolute gun from Norman.

Oh and a classic Kemp try at the end.

mannn you just have to watch kemp run and realise how much we are missing some genuine speedsters without yow yeh.

look how nice & deep lochy got us in the big attacking plays in that video.

so is capewell coming onto the bench? personally i'd rather we went with four forwards. time for 80, macca.

Baptiste would be a good option. He has been playing well from all reports

Cowboys were (basically) a wooden spoon side that season though & apart from a couple of gutsy (kind of flukey) try savers Norman's proudest moments were spoon fed to him by none other than the great Darren Lockyer.

I'm still more impressed with Gillett who's support play, quick play the balls and ability to pop a good short pass really helped us. I don't think he ever got enough credit for initiating that last play.

Still an awful shame what happened to Kemp that season. He had his issues and some fans were way OTT with their appreciation but when he was on gee he was a lot of fun to watch.

well we've been beaten 3 games in a row by 3 teams who at one stage or another this year have looked like getting the wooden spoon :)

Really liking Norman at the back, it's the 1, 6, 7 and 9 that I want. Look at that highlight reel? We're so damaging when playing deeper it's ridiculous.

Makes me sad how we lost Kemp.

What I like about Norman at fullback is that if he's coming in as the man from the back it's okay to run more. He's a run first pass second kinda guy and he's much better in a run first position like fullback than a position like five eight.

Agreed 100%

That was Kemp's first game back in Broncos colours right? Despite his faults, man he had a nice highlight reel...

The depth in that back line is something beautiful. We started to do that a little towards the end of the Raiders game but ended up with some shitty offloads that killed it. Darren comes on to the ball so deep and has time to work. Norman is rarely deep enough to give himself that space. Wallace -> Hunt -> Norman coming into the backline could be a beautiful thing... **** I hope it is...

Yeah in. I way is the Hoff an atrocious footballer but he doesn't offer what we need at the back, I think Norman can and will be the best option if we persisted with him there.

I still remember when they were in competition for the fullback spot in 2010, Hoffman said he would be a good choice because he gives us a kick return game. I haven't seen too many decent kick returns from him lately.

i seriously think it could be.

hopefully norman keeps talking from the back and helps get the halves in order. if wallace can stop trying to do everything himself and let the game flow around him a bit more, then things could go really well.

teo back in the forwards means he can be an "option", rather than just a guy sitting out in the centre.s

ps we are on track for the longest "build up" thread this year :D

He's one of the best in the competition and made a good run against Canberra where he ran past 4 defenders and made a good 20 or so metre run.
