POST GAME [Round 3, 2022] Broncos vs Cowboys

I wonder if Cobbs is experiencing a double whammy of post-Covid effects and second year syndrome.
Possibly. However i think its a lack of confidence in Staggs inside him. Hes not old/experienced enough to ride above that yet. If Staggs fails - he will fail currently.

We just suffered a terrible loss that was far from expectations. How do you expect emotional people to react?

Its easy to take the emotion out of it. Judge them game by game and see who has been either the most disappointing or the most out of form. Then you can logically see where the changes need to be.

I don't ever recall talking Lingwoodock up but what I will say is thank you. You have single-handedly identified the issue with the Brisbane Broncos - us posters on here who have more than 15k posts. I will be on the phone to Kevvie ASAP and tell him the problem with the team the last couple of years is...me (and my fellow 15k plus posters).
Agreed sort your fucking shit out!!

There's no way Selwyn should get the 1 any time soon. He'll be lucky to still in the 5.

Staggs and Cobbo are proper fucked.
The two of them trying the hero play every time there is a half chance in attack and it hasn't come off once yet. Staggs either drops it cold or passes it forward early in the tackle count in good field position. Selwyn seems to always try to beat people on the outside and gets bunded into touch. Play the field position game FFS.

In defence, Staggs constantly rushes in half arsed and gets beaten leaving us short and Selwyn constantly does a Coates and gets pushed backwards into the in goal.

I'm not sure they have half a brain between the two of them.

Drop them both to get some confidence back and bring in Brenko and Pereira.

Niu will be lucky to keep his place - bring in Mead to just plod along. At least he'll be solid and reliable.

Herbie, Haas, Carrigan were good and can walk tall.

I thought Jensens minimal contribution was good and deserves to keep his spot.

I think we was good at tigers and can pay 9. He can't play 80 but could play more minutes than Turpin in the rotation.

He isnt really bad, but i think we have 2 hookers who dont offer enough.

I thought we read the cowboys attack fairly well and were numbering up, talking and pointing in the line, it was just soft misses one on one that let us down in defence. Our bigger problem was allowing them 70m each set to get in attacking positions. It wasn’t always from conceding errors or penalties, our line speed just wasn’t there for a lot of the game.

We played dumb. Line speed, penalties errors and poor execution. Players seem to be allowed to get away with it.

I know i'll get shit for it, but i've never thought he should have been the coach, i dont think he is good enough but we got backed into a corner in a lot of ways and he is the coach we had to have rather than the one we really needed, which is a shame because he is such a likeable and good bloke

I think that's half his problem personally. He just doesn't have the sort of big stick in him that Bellyache or Robinson do, and it shows. This is one of the most mentally weak teams in the comp and they are comfortable with that because there's nobody there to get in their faces rather than just dropping them for 2 weeks. These blokes don't give a shit if they play NRL or Qcup, they get paid the same either way. Just dropping them or even threatening to doesn't work anymore. They need to be straight up chewed out by someone who commands respect.

That's the two sides of the coin: A severe lack of mental fortitude and too many fringe first graders in important positions. I'm not sure Turpin would get a run anywhere else at the moment but apparently he's good enough for us, in a position we have been egregiously neglecting for the better half of a decade no less.

What i would say is Lee and Periera looked like they had a bit of chemistry in the trials. Surely now is the time after 3 poor efforts by our right side to give players that did well in the trials a run. We cant keep rewarding poor performances with spots in the team.
Chopping and changing isn’t going to help long term, might make us feel better about players being held accountable, but they won’t get any better either. I would maybe give Cobbo a rest & bring in pereira, but I think we need to preserve with Staggs.

Hardly the only one, we all know he was last man standing. Equally we all know he won’t last long.

Still think Kotoni looks like a game out might do him good. Cant remember the last time i watched him have 3 poor games in a row and we have a decent replacement to bring in. You dont need to have a gamebreaker in every position. Sometimes just somebody doing their job is enough. Its all Melbourne do really. I dont think swapping out a couple of players is chopping and changing. Maybe give them another game at best to see if they can improve, but if they cant we really need to make the call.
