No attempt to tackle at all..

Riff have some sort of superior bone density improvement programs, their physiques around where bones are pronounced are noticeably different than pretty much every other team. I don't think teams should be targeting their players for signings, they should be after their strength and conditioning staff.
I think you are on to something. That may explain Cleary's chin.

Thoughts on B.Walters this year? I think he has gone backwards on last year. Also loves to give away a penalty or two. As soon as Smoothy came on last night we looked a lot sharper. This isn’t a bag B.Walters comment but I just don’t think he has been effective this year.

May should be suspended but I am sure the MRC will clear him because he isn't wearing yellow and maroon. At the end of the day it sucks and the next month or so will be rough but it could also be the sort of month that really brings a team together in the trenches if they can hold it together and snag a couple of wins while the big guns are out. Hopefully the time off healing allows the big guns to be fresh by the back in the of the season.

I don't think you will get any argument there, Walters has been extremely poor this year, he is one of the most concerning players right now.

we were always going to lose this game, with or without Walsh. It’s 2 points at the end of the day. We can recover from this.

For me, we got bullied out there and that’s the test I was more disappointed with. We crumbled badly under what I can only describe as a a couple of older grubby schoolboy bullies being helped by the teacher. No team can survive that.

The constant hands and forearms into the faces in the ruck, the constant intimidation, trying to get reactions in order to get penalties.

Felt like the Storm game away last year when everything went against us.

Tough now with no Reynolds, Haas and Walsh in the team possibly for a few weeks. Add to that the loss of Herbie, Capewell and Flegler and we suddenly look very lightweight.

Good on them though for not rolling over completely and having 40+ on us.

Agree, but not the only one that's been underwhelming in 2024. Bit of a hangover / late pre season.

He tends to be a bit slow out of the blocks. IIRC it was similar last year.

There will be a small window for Mozer, Smoothy or even Paix to play the house down and force Kevvie's hand

So I guess somehow Taupau also escapes suspension which is a shame for us really.

Not even close to a shame, especially while Haas is out. Because if he gets suspended we have to put someone worse in that position

Absolutely! The way May came in for that tackle he was ALWAYS going to make dangerous contact. This is why the rugby has implemented their system to protect players and include mitigating factors that help the ref adjudicate on the response. To say he was just rushing in to make a tackle is total bullshit. He went in to hurt Walsh and Walsh even jumped to try to avoid a head clash, because May SHOULD have been bending down to make a tackle.
Until the NRL sorts out the way players tackle to wrap up the ball, this will keep happening.

Union recently had an ex-welsh captain diagnosed with early onset dementia at 41. They’re way more on the ball when it comes to player welfare and the threat of litigation.

Hypothetically, how does the nrl defend its adjudication and general approach to tackles like May’s when a sport that is extremely similar is sending players off regularly for similar hits?

Capes doesn't change the result last night. He may not have even changed the margin.

Guess which way this article goes:

I'm not gonna click but I could imagine they're siding with Brandy and the all conquering Panthers... they've probably quoted Brandy in there as well.

Cost them a penalty... cost us 4-6 weeks without a top 5 player in the comp

Compare that to when Manu went down after Latrell tackled him high a few years ago and the media backlash that came to Uncle Nick's side

That's the problem with our wingers. Fast and reliable, but really suck at the kick returns. And Walsh isn't that good at it either.

Well actually 2nd half Mariner started to make post contact metres and I thought well there goes the one thing Oates had over him .

It seems like the only thing you disagree with is intent. Fine. He's a dumbass to think that rushing in like that isn't going to end up hurting someone. Even the speed of him getting there was reckless because he didn't try to shut the play down, he just charged at Walsh and it wasn't any way to make a safe tackle.
it’s a bit like the hip drop. Not many of those were intentional: it stemmed from the way players were coached to tackle and wrestle players to the ground. The nrl came out with a no holds barred approach to suspending and binning people for doing it and, Lo and behold, tackling techniques changed and the hip drop all but disappeared. If you came out and sent off and suspended shots like May’s you’d quickly see players stop screaming out of the line and throwing their body at the ball runner with no intention of executing a proper, below the chest tackle
