Round 3 - Broncos v Roosters - Post Match Discussion

Mitchel Pearce, the NSW Halfback, was comfortably outplayed by Ben Hunt, a relative rookie. Hunt also ran over and around Pearce on more than one occasion, one of those occasions leading to a Ben Hunt try.

The way I saw it was that Pearce and Maloney combined way better than Hunt and Hoffman, and their (soft) tries out wide showed a well worked combination which just knows how to spot weaknesses/opportunities out wide.

Hunt played great, and he maybe played better than Pearce, but for mine, it's all about the halves, not a half doing it mainly on his own, and an outside back still learning how to read the play and pass the ball also doing it on his own.

NRL is a game of combinations, not individual performances alone.

I hate Maloney and especially Pearce as much as anybody (probably more), but to be fair, we completely dominated field position for most of the match...but they seemed to have come up with points just about every time they got some good field position back.

They are a well drilled side with learned combinations and most of the time, players know where to be when the plays are called. I dislike both Pearce and Maloney too, but for mine, they direct the Roosters well, and last night, they read our weaknesses out wide and exploited them.

They are a settled side. We are not ... yet

It seems many on here seem proud of Hunt but please don't forget that we had 50% more ball than the roosters. Any decent side should have capitalised on that and run away with a win. We didn't. We failed miserably. If possession was 50/50 then the score line would have been closer to 40-12.

We lack decent last tackle plays and that comes down to Hunt as well as having a 5/8 who can't pass.

50% more ball? Possession was 54%-46%.

First Half -

Brisbane completed 18/20 sets.
Roosters completed 9/14 sets.

Second Half -

Brisbane completed 15/19 sets.
Roosters completed 10/13 sets.

Josh Hoffman stats: 11 runs for 97 meters. 1 try assist, 5 tackle breaks, 1 line break assist.

Ben Hunt stats: 8 runs for 80 meters. 2 try assists, 8 tackle breaks, 3 line breaks, 1 line break assist.

We are a team that has played 3 games with new combinations. The Roosters have won a premiership with their combinations. Their halves combination is also the NSW halves combination.

The utter unrealistic expectations some people have on here are dour and inhospitable.

Great post Brett and spot on the money.

Unfortunately I think we are wasting our breath because some posters have made up their mind that they are going to hate this team no matter what. I mean how can you reason with someone that is going to make up something ridiculous like we had 50% more possession... That's not even believable, just to prove their point.

The negativity is becoming pathetic and this is turning into EmoHQ

At the end of the day, they're going to hate no matter what. Haters gon' hate, right?

The real fans will continue to discuss the team and the way we play in depth, week to week. I think it's important moving forward, that we simply ignore the known culprits. In real life they'd be left out of the group or punched in the face.

Watching the Sunday footy show and they played all the bad play the balls by the Roosters. JWH right at the death (that led to the try to win) was atrocious! How was that not pulled up?!?! Ridiculous!

And they are right. He was warned at least two times to play it properly earlier in the game.

We lost that game because of poor 1 on 1 defense and poor goal kicking. That's pretty much it. We can't make up stats just to prove our own points. That's just ridiculous.

We lost that game due to poor refereeing. The very last tackle before that last roosters try was a knock on. McCullough did a great tackle and the ball came loose. Didn't anyone else see it? I have replayed it a few times and it was obvious.

There were a lot of bad calls in the game, forward passes leading to tries, incorrect play the balls and markers standing five metres off the play the ball too. But we don't want to sound like Bulldogs fans and blame the ref every week.

95% of the time, it is the refs fault we have lost the close games.

The refs have now been told if the play the ball is wrong, it's a penalty. (which has always been the rule)

I can handle teams losing fair & square, what I can't handle is referring mistakes costing a team a win.

The refs are going to cost a team a GF berth & that team will take legal action.

Well, they cost the cowboys a finals berth last year so I'm sure they can step up to the plate and cost a team a GF berth.
