Round 3 - Broncos v Roosters - Post Match Discussion

Last night we lacked a little self belief in the last 8 mins. If the short kickoff was secured by us the game would have been dusted. We performed better than I thought we would have. Full credit to all especially B Hunt.

Things are going well at the moment but it still looks as though it has the potential to go all pear shaped very quickly. In saying that, just happy at the moment to go along for the ride and to be able to wake up on a Saturday morning without the sh1ts :takdir:

Highlights Broncos v Roosters - Broncos

From the highlights, you can tell the last try was all Hunt, Hoffman just did what any normal player should have done and passed.

You can also see that every try we let it was thanks to some terrible defence. Just really, really soft one on one misses from Reed, Hoffman and Copley, really REALLY soft effort on Moa from Barba, Gillett and the 3rd player (forgot who), and Hunt and Copley just being completely lost for the final try.

There are a lot of positives to take out of the game, and I'm still very excited...but defence isn't one of them, unfortunately. Or rather edge defence, defence through the middle was still excellent.

Amazing some of you blokes. Dead set.

Hunt was the best player on the field by an enormous margin, yet he's not NRL level. That is without a doubt, one of the more idiotic things to be said on this forum.

Our combinations are starting to heat up IMO. I'm liking Hoffman at 5/8. He's passing well now and set up 2 tries. Hunt was brilliant. Barba was chiming in well and Macca has been huge. Thaiday is having his best season in 3 years. Wallace made some good runs, Hala was effective and I thought Kennedy was great too. Vidot again busted his ass and made us some really strong meters. I think Oates will cement his place on the bench at the expense of Lowrie.

Tell ya what, I can't wait to see this team in a few weeks...

1. Barba
2. Vidot
3. Hodges
4. Copley
5. Martanta / Reed
6. Hoffman
7. Hunt

8. McGuire
9. Macca
10. Parker
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Gillett

14. Hannant
15. Kennedy
16. Oates
17. Hala / Wallace

That to me, is a really dynamic team.

I just watched the post-match press conference and you can tell by listening to Parker talk that the team is still upbeat despite the loss, I wouldn't recommend watching it though as listening to Griffin speak is seriously painful.

Someone did ask Parker if there should have been any sin-bins, he felt it was warranted but didn't really say much else. Apparently all clubs were spoken to at the start of the season about slowing down the play-the-ball inside the 10, they must have forgot to tell the Roosters ;)

Defending the short kick off is easier said than done, especially when the opposition has a bloke like Tupou on the receiving end.

Heck, the Broncos even proved this in the dying stages.

Very happy with the captaincy change as well, Parker is proving he's more than capable on and off the field and we've already seen the major improvement in Thaiday's game. The little things really do make a difference, some new captains and a new fitness coach and things are already looking up.

I'm glad you mentioned this. The turnaround in Thaiday has been enormous. He's been close to our best forward and definitely in close to career best form. Also the fitness thing. We seemed at least as fit, if not a bit fitter than the Roosters. Now, that's saying something, because they were easily the fittest team last year. Our fitness will win us a lot of games this year.

Absolutely right. I can say from experience (20 plus years in the training industry) that it is THE most impacting difference in the performance of the club right now. The other component that is paramount in this sport is how well you manage and avoid injuries. People lose sight of this fact. I don't think it was a total coincidence that besides being out of shape the last few years that we had a huge amount of injuries. Being a contact sport, some are unavoidable but you would be surprised at how important it is to have the right training to coincide with the activity itself. So far I tip my cap to the new program as it has already paid dividends.

Yep, it was a bummer losing last night the way they did, but so many positives to take on board. After the last pre-season match this year if someone said after playing the dogs, cowboys and roosters, we would be 2-1 while pushing the champs to the absolute limit, you might of laughed at them. All of the sudden they are a competitive side that has some hope. Hell even Marananta has earned his stripes and at the moment I am not hating Hook. Not all gloom and doom after all.

Great game by all, especially Hunt and Thaiday who killed it. Maranta is playing really well with his work in defense and positional play lifting greatly from last year. Hoffman went ok though he does need to pass, seems he is lacking the vision and trying to do it himself, a la Norman.

So confidence would still be very high after that which we'll need against the Dragons at the gong.

Roosters are a very good team and taking them to the wire deserves full credit to the Broncs.

Get rid of Parker as goal kicker, how many more times does his goal kicking want to cost us a game?...

The problem here is that he is the best goal kicker we have in the side. Anyone else will miss way more.

This. I can forgive not converting from right on the sideline, that's always tricky, but all the best kickers are almost guaranteed to kick everything else. Our final two tries should have been converted.

He might be the best kicker during training without the fatigue and pressure of an actual game but we honestly need someone else, I just get the feeling that he loves to do it so they persist with him. Sorry Parker but a goal kicker you ain't.

The thing that disappointed me the most about last nights game was that there was a fucking roosters knockon in the last tackle before that final roosters try. Macca saw it yet these useless fucking refs with their painted on eyes didn't.
